iXL Diagnostic Assessments

Students grades K-5 will be expected to complete the IXL diagnostics in both Reading and Math before the year's end. Teachers will be sharing information shortly but I wanted to make parents aware of this district-wide expectation. These assessments are in NO any way part of a report card grades. It is however, a good way to know a student's current areas of strength and areas of need as we prepare for next school year. Because this assessment is used as a diagnostic tool, it is essential that students take it independently and without any assistance. There will be questions students are not able to answer because the level of difficulty continually increases based on students' correct answers. Students need to simply choose "I don't know this yet" when it is a question they cannot answer.

Here are a few resources that may be of interest to better understand this assessment:

No Place for Hate Recognition

Both Westwood and Lindsey Elementaries will be recognized for completing the "No Place for Hate" program. This consisted of students completing three activities about inclusion and kindness towards others. Students completed activities during lessons with Mrs. Cunningham as well as completing activites such as One School, One Book and completing activities for the "Different" video.

No Place for Hate will have a special "Spread the Light: No Place for Hate" celebration on Facebook Live. In order to watch the event live, attendees should head to the ADL Cleveland Facebook page on Thursday, May 28th at 11:00 AM ET where the video where be livestreamed. Anyone can watch the live video without a Facebook account. We also have a Facebook event that directs participants to the same link for those attendees with an account. Feel free to mark “going” on the Facebook event and invite any of your Facebook friends who would be interested in watching.

Congratulations to students, staff, and family members for participating and supporting these activities.

AFTER PROM COMMITTEE SPECIAL REQUEST

hank you for your kind words and support of our Senior Class. Our district has planned a beautiful graduation ceremony that balances our health and safety with our desire to celebrate our seniors' accomplishments. Because they will be unable to take part in Prom and After Prom, the After Prom Committee decided to divide the money we collected through fundraising this year among all of our seniors and present them with a gift card to be included in their diploma envelopes. Would you like to help us increase the dollar amount of the gift cards? Please consider making a donation to the West Geauga After Prom. Any amount is appreciated. We only have this week to collect donations.
