**ASVAB Testing**
The Charles County Public Schools Career and Technical Education Department is sponsoring an Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test session on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Maurice J. McDonough High School at 9:00 am.
The ASVAB exam is a series of short subtests that is designed to help students identify their skills in a variety of areas. The results of this computer-based test may be able to assist students in determining their career path after high school.
To be eligible to participate in the November 18th test session, students must be at least 16 years old, and a current 11th or 12th grade CCPS student.
Interested students can use the link below to register. Registered students should bring their CCPS issued computer and charger with them to the testing session. Additional test site information will be sent (via Synergy) after registration closes on November 14th.
If you have already taken and/or registered for the ASVAB test at your home school, please speak with your College and Career counselor before registering for this testing session. Additionally, ASVAB policy determines that there must be a 30-day window between test attempts.

Important Information for All Years in High School
GRADES: Your grades don't need to be perfect. But, always make an effort to keep your grades up. This may mean going in to talk to teachers, getting tutoring, or spending long hours in the library. That's OK. Remember that your lack of resources is not used against you and your grades are looked at in the context of your experiences.
KEEP A RECORD OF YOUR EXTRACURRICULARS: What you do when you're not eating, sleeping, homework-ing. These are not just things you do after school, but things that take up your time that are not classes. Community service, volunteering, clubs, sports, church, jobs, community groups.
SUMMERS: Consider working, participating in academic enrichment programs, summer workshops or volunteering at community organizations.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Start forming relationships with teachers, employers, religious institutions or community organizations. Letters of recommendation should be from someone who knows you well and can speak positively and honestly about you. For instance, you're better off getting a letter of recommendation from a teacher who knows you well but got a low grade with than from a teacher whose class you did well in but doesn't know you at all.
**2nd Annual Youth Summit (10th & 11th grade)**
CCPS is excited to offer the Youth Apprenticeship "Earn and Learn" Program as one of our approved Career and Technical Education pathways. The summit will be held on Thursday, November 16 at the College of Southern Maryland.
Participating students may select to work during their junior and senior years, including summer. Students work with a mentor to learn valuable skills, earn industry credentials, and high school credit. The program is a partnership between the Maryland Department of Labor, the Maryland State Department of Education, CCPS, community educational and business partners, and area employers. The program is focused on middle skill occupations in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) and manufacturing. Student apprentices are paid and receive training in employability skills, interpersonal/social skills and general knowledge of the world of work.
The agenda for the day will include:
· learning details of the Apprenticeship Maryland Program (AMP)
· participate in valuable career development workshops, including mock interviews, led by business professionals
· network with employers in attendance
Transportation, all necessary materials, and lunch are provided. The Summit is provided at no cost to participants.
Please see Ms. Long, College and Career Advisor for a permission slip. Space is limited and permission slips will be accepted on a first come basis.
