COOL TOOLS address Bullying Prevention Month

Each month on TEAM Days a dedicated group of teachers plan school-wide cool tools or lessons that focus on decreasing office discipline referrals and improving student achievement. In addition, it provides students with the foundational skills they will need for success in life. The objectives of Wednesday's lessons include identifying the most common types of in-person bullying and distinguishing between bullying and harassment.

Community Building

On TEAM days we encourage the development of positive teacher-student relationships with community building activities. Together teachers and students across the school reflect upon ways they can show kindness to others. Each reflection is recorded onto a leaf, apple or pumpkin and will be displayed on our Kindness Tree located near the Main Office or in the Activity Entrance Hallway.

What Parents Can Do

This article offers a manageable set of tips for what parents can do at home to prevent a cyber-bullying situation with their child or on behalf of other children.

In the Classroom

TEAM Tag

Health and PE join forces in a collaborative game of TEAM Tag. Taggers work together to strategize and eliminate their opponents. Taking regular brain breaks and engaging in physical exercise allows students to better concentrate and maintain focus, which has a positive impact on their academic life.

Tooth Pick Brain Teasers

Students across the Discovery Department collaborate to solve STEM focused brain teasers using toothpicks.

Important Reminders

Attendance Matters: The Effects of Tardiness on Education

It may seem like 10 minutes isn’t really that much, but for the typical school day of 6.5 hours, a student who is only 10 minutes late every day may miss up to 30 hours of school time that year. School-wide data has shown that students arriving late to class has been a challenge during quarter 1 for our students.

In addition, students who are frequently late to school miss out on important daily announcements and instructions for lessons and academic activities.

When students miss out on instructions, teachers must adjust and redirect their attention away from regular teaching time and towards filling the gaps for students resulting in less learning time for all students.

Please do your best to continue to strive toward making it to school on time for both your child and the rest of our school community.
