Principal's Update

Summer 2022

Principal's Note

Dear NPE Community,

I hope this email finds you in good health and spirits! The 2022-2023 school year is inching ever closer as the calendar turns to August. Throughout the month of July, I enjoyed seeing many familiar and friendly faces at the Nether Providence Township Rec Camp, WSSD Community of Explorers and the WSSD Extended School Year Programs.

I look forward to seeing all of our returning students this upcoming fall and would also like to extend a welcome our new families and students to the NPE community.

In the update below, I would like to pass along information about the release of back to school information, as well as our upcoming Open House for new NPE families and for our incoming kindergarteners. We hope our new families will be able to join us on August 25th!

Please take a few moments and review all of the following information contained in this newsletter.

Fondly,

Al Heinle

Principal

Nether Providence Elementary

Welcome New NPE Staff Members for 2022-2023

Dr. Liz Corson - 5th Grade

Dr. Corson will be replacing Miss Pulos who departed to pursue other opportunities this past summer. Dr. Corson has taught fifth grade at Swarthmore-Rutledge School (SRS) for many years. We are excited to add her to our team!

Mrs. Sara Benamy - Art

We are thrilled to welcome back Mrs. Benamy to NPE! Mrs. Benamy will be our new art teacher at NPE. Mrs. Benamy is no stranger to the NPE community as she served as our in-person art teacher during the 2020-2021 school year. She has also served as a long and short term substitute in grade 3 and 4, respectively.

Mrs. Deb Sweeney - School Nurse

We welcome Deb Sweeney to our NPE Office team. Mrs. Sweeney has most recently served the WSSD community in the role of lead COVID Nurse. She is excited to join our community and learn more about our students and families.

Mrs. Laura Blocksom, Learning Support

Mrs. Blocksom will be joining the NPE family as our new K-1 Learning Support teacher. Mrs. Blocksom is an experienced educator who comes to us with a variety of experiences working with students across the grade levels.

Miss Alyssa Pyne, Kindergarten

Miss Pyne rejoins the NPE family for the 22-23 school year! Miss Pyne taught kindergarten last year in the fall of 2021 and spent the remainder of the year as a long term substitute at Wallingford Elementary. Miss Pyne will be replacing Mrs. Gray, who will be transitioning to 2nd grade this year. Mrs. Gray will be taking over for Mrs. Pandov. We wish Mrs. Pandov the best of luck as she has relocated with her family since the end of the 21-22 school year..

Elementary Success - Tips For Parents

As a parent, you are the most important and influential person in your child's life -- and your child needs you to be interested and involved in their education. The following tips will help ensure that your child has a successful school year:

* Insist on daily attendance. Unless your child is ill, they need to be in school.

* Make sure your child has the recommended school supplies. If you have questions, talk to your child's teacher (WSSD Supply list can be found on the NPE web page).

* Help your child create a schedule. Make homework a part of the daily routine, and be available as much as possible to help with difficult assignments.

*Talk to your child about what is happening at school. Show interest in what your child is learning.

* Make sure your child gets enough sleep. Elementary-aged children should get 9-11 hours of sleep each night.

* Monitor technology use. Have technology guidelines and limits, insist that all devices be turned off an hour before bedtime, and charge all devices in a central location at night.
