Principal's Update
Summer 2022
Principal's Note
Dear NPE Community,
I hope this email finds you in good health and spirits! The 2022-2023 school year is inching ever closer as the calendar turns to August. Throughout the month of July, I enjoyed seeing many familiar and friendly faces at the Nether Providence Township Rec Camp, WSSD Community of Explorers and the WSSD Extended School Year Programs.
I look forward to seeing all of our returning students this upcoming fall and would also like to extend a welcome our new families and students to the NPE community.
In the update below, I would like to pass along information about the release of back to school information, as well as our upcoming Open House for new NPE families and for our incoming kindergarteners. We hope our new families will be able to join us on August 25th!
Please take a few moments and review all of the following information contained in this newsletter.
Fondly,
Al Heinle
Principal
Nether Providence Elementary

Kindergarten and New Family Open HouseWe will be hosting an opportunity for new families/kindergarteners to visit our school on Thursday, August 25 from 3:30-5:00 PM. There will be a brief presentation in the cafeteria by myself and the NPE PTO, followed by an opportunity for students to visit the larger areas of the school, such as the gym, cafeteria, and library spaces. Individual classrooms will not be open for visitation at that time. However, a kindergarten classroom will be available for our new students and families. A district bus will also be present at our school for a visit by any new students who have not ridden on a bus before. | WSSD Attendance Policy and Procedures(To review the complete Wallingford-Swarthmore School District Policy on Attendance please reference School Board Policy #204: WSSD Attendance Policy For school specific information, please click here: WSSD Attendance Information Regular and timely attendance is essential for success in school. A student's first responsibility is to attend school regularly and fulfill all requirements. Regular and prompt attendance is a habit to be cultivated early in one’s school career. We look forward to continuing to provide balanced breakfasts, lunches, and snacks for the 22-23 school year. Students may still be eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals—please visit the Food Services page on the school district website to apply! If you do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals, the price for breakfast is $1.75, and the elementary school price for lunch is $2.75. Students will need to enter their PIN at the register, and then pay with cash, check (made out to WSSD Food Services), or MySchoolBucks funds. Elementary Success - Tips For Parents
* Insist on daily attendance. Unless your child is ill, they need to be in school.
* Make sure your child has the recommended school supplies. If you have questions, talk to your child's teacher (WSSD Supply list can be found on the NPE web page).
* Help your child create a schedule. Make homework a part of the daily routine, and be available as much as possible to help with difficult assignments.
*Talk to your child about what is happening at school. Show interest in what your child is learning.
* Make sure your child gets enough sleep. Elementary-aged children should get 9-11 hours of sleep each night.
* Monitor technology use. Have technology guidelines and limits, insist that all devices be turned off an hour before bedtime, and charge all devices in a central location at night.
