Spring Break is over ... Spring Season is HERE ... and it's time for BricksCenter!
Softball
On Tuesday, Chesterton visited The Friendly City for the first softball game of the year. After a scoreless first 2 innings of play, the Brickies loaded the bases in the bottom half of the 3rd. Senior Alyssa Janik BELTED a double into the gap to clear the base pads and give Hobart a 3-0 lead! In the bottom half of the 6th ... with the cushion now 8-0, it was Janik AGAIN with a double to the gap with two runners on to make it a 10-0 VICTORY!!! Alyssa finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with 5 RBI! Senior Cierra Huitron, junior Keirys Click and sophomore Taylor Lopez all had multiple hits on the night to help Hobart earn the opening day W and junior Morgan Ellenberger was light out in pitching a complete game shutout while striking out 11 batters and walking just one!
Hobart was scheduled to host LaPorte on Saturday, but in an effort to avoid a soaked field based on predicted thunderstorms Friday night, the game was moved up to Thursday and our Bricks were READY TO ROCK! The Slicers plated a run in the first and after 2 innings, the scoreboard showed a 1-0 LaPorte advantage. In the bottom half of the 3rd with Click on base, sophomore Emili Knestrick doubled to score the runner and then scored herself on a sacrifice fly by Janik to give Hobart a 2-1 lead! Knestrick was at it again in the 5th when she sent a 2-run BLAST over the left field fence to extend the lead to 4-1! Janik was up next for the Bricks and HAMMERED one over the fence in right-center to make it 5-1 BRICKIES!!! That's right - BACK-to-BACK HOMERUNS!! WOW!! Hobart tacked on one more for good measure and earned a convincing 6-1 VICTORY!! Ellenberger was once again FANTASTIC in the circle by pitching all 7 innings surrendering just 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 8!!
Hobart is off to a 2-0 start for the first time in recent memory!! Another DAC foe awaits on Monday (Michigan City) and NCC play begins Thursday at home against Kankakee Valley in a HUGE week for the Bricks! LET'S GOOOOOO!!!

Baseball
Monday, Hobart hosted Merrillville in game 1. In the bottom half of the 1st inning, the Brickies looked to be in complete control as our boys plated 6 RUNS! The Pirates would not go gentle into that good night and fought their way all the way back to tie it up at 6-6 in the top half of the 6th inning. After holding Merrillville scoreless in the 7th, the Brickies came up to bat with a chance to steal a win. In the bottom of the 7th ... with two outs, the bases loaded and the sun setting fast, junior Gabe Nunez STOLE HOME TO WIN THE GAME!!! Final score: Hobart 7, Merrillville 6 - UNBELIEVABLE!! Sophomore Aidan Leonard threw 4.1 innings and struck out 10 on the bump for Hobart ... senior Cam Gonzalez went 2-for-4 at the plate in the opening win!
In game #2, the Bricks traveled to Washington Township on Tuesday. Hobart junior Jevan Andrews got things going early for the offense with a leadoff double and later scored to give our boys an early 1-0 lead. The Senators tied things up with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. With score 1-1 in the 3rd, the Brickies EXPLODED for 5 runs and CRUISED the rest of the way for an easy 12-3 VICTORY!! The play of the day went to sophomore Connor Stafford, who had an INSIDE-THE-PARK HOMERUN! WOW!! Nunez was masterful on the mound going 5 innings and allowing 0 earned runs while striking out 9 batters. Andrews was a 1-man wrecking crew on the day ... 4-for-5, 4 runs scored, 3 stolen bases and an RBI!
Game #3 was also on the road ... this time the destination was New Prairie. This one was originally scheduled for Friday, but was moved up to Thursday in an effort to avoid Friday night's storms. This one started off just like Tuesday's game with Andrews getting on base and scoring a first inning run for a 1-0 Hobart advantage! The Cougars tied things up in the 3rd and went ahead 3-1 in the 5th on a 2-out triple. The Bricks battled back to within one when Gonzalez hit a sacrifice to score junior Nick Sobczynski in the 6th to cut the deficit to 3-2, but unfortunately that's as close as our boys would get the rest of the way. New Prairie added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning and won 4-2. Andrews was 2-for-3 with another double and stolen base ... Sobczynski went 1-for-2 and scored ... and sophomore Drew Burris tossed 4 innings while striking out 3 batters, surrendering just 2 hits and allowing 0 earned runs in the loss.
The Brickies are 2-1 on the year and will be back at it this upcoming week with another 3-game set!! DON'T STOP NOW BOYS!!
