The Counselor's Corner
This month in Counseling, we will be very busy learning new things. Kindergarten through second grade will be learning the importance of using our whole bodies (brain, heart, eyes, ears, and bodies) to listen to others. Using whole body listening shows others we care about what they have to say. Third graders will find out what their learning style is and how to be most successful in school, with strategies specifically designed for each learning style. The three that they will be learning about are visual (you prefer to see information), auditory (you prefer to hear information), and kinesthetic (you prefer to use movement to learn). Fourth and fifth grade are starting a new curriculum called “Why Try.” The focus is to teach kiddos that if we continue to try hard, even when we face challenges, that there will be many opportunities as we move through life. I look forward to all the new learning that is happening in Counseling.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or email me at any time.

Pershing Nurse News
Welcome back to school from Nurse Amy & Nurse Farrow! Health questions or concerns? Call us at 523-2430.
Please keep your little ones at home if they have a fever of 100 or greater. They may return to school when fever-free for 24 hrs without Tylenol/Ibuprofen. Same goes for vomiting or diarrhea - may return to school 24 hrs after last episode. Regarding head lice remember that SPS observes a “no-nit” policy so children with lice or nits will be sent home for treatment and removal. We are happy to talk you through the treatment process and we expect your student to return to school the next day. We ask that you escort the student to the nurse’s office that morning for a quick check before returning to class. All medications needed at school must be brought and picked up by an adult regardless if prescription or over-the-counter. We do not stock cough drops or chapstick and we cannot give any OTC medications to your child unless you’ve brought it to us and signed it in. Finally, please send your child with an extra set of undies and clothes if you suspect they may have an accident at school. To ensure all students have a healthy year please make sure your children get at least 8 hours of sleep every night.
