easily while working. Your child may bring a water bottle to school (water only, please).
There is also a fountain in our classroom. Also – please remember Mrs. Troutman's room is a “nut-free” classroom!

Math
- In Everyday Math, students are working on Unit 1 – Establishing Routines, and are revisiting important skills from First Grade in order to reinforce the foundation for our new learning.
- We will begin practicing basic facts this week! The students will participate in paper pencil math fact activities as well as iPad activities. You will also get a login for your child for XtraMath.org so your child can practice their math facts!
- Students will also be taking Two-Minute Timings bi-weekly this year. This is an assessment to monitor their progress with basic facts. This will be explained in further detail at Back To School Night!
- Just two minutes of nightly practice will help our students learn their basic facts!
Reading
During Reader's Workshop, we are briefly reviewing the routines and strategies that good readers use. This review allows our Language Arts block to flow smoothly. We will begin Unit 1, Reading Growth Spurt. The children will not only learn what to read, but how to read! Word Study will begin next week.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, our first unit is Citizenship. We are studying groups, communities, and the purpose of rules. Last week our students discussed and created rules to help our days flow smoothly. During this unit, the students will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. McKillip to learn about her role as the leader of FC and our Superintendent, Dr. Lloyd, to also hear about her role at the leader of OJR.
