Superintendent's Message
Dear JUHSD Community,
Weather during these past few days has been interesting, to say the least! I hope you were able to stay dry, safe, and with power for most of this week.
Power Outages
This past week, we experienced power outages at Oceana High School, Jefferson High School, the Bus Garage, and the District Office. Leaders from those sites were fast to respond, along with quickly messaging updates to their students and staffs. For this, I am truly grateful.
Also, I would like to extend a special shout-out to Westmoor High School Principal Brock Ahrens and his team for allowing us to quickly move Tuesday's board meeting from the District Office to the WHS Library.
Promo Videos
In January, with support from Nichols Strategies, the JUHSD Communications Department created three promotional videos to highlight the amazing things taking place within this district! With great excitement, and for the very first time, these videos where shown to the Trustees and public during this past Tuesday's Board Meeting. These videos not only convey the brains, heart, and commitment found in our district, but they bring home our belief that JUHSD is the best place to be!
In the next three Superintendent Updates, we'll feature one of the three videos shown this past Tuesday. Today, please enjoy our first promotional video, JUHSD Is The Place To Be, linked below! During this six minute video, we showcase student and staff life at all six of our district sites, along with various district programs. A big shout out to the students, staff, and community members featured in these videos! #juhsdproud
Ramadan
Ramadan Mubarak! Thursday, March 23, ushered in Ramadan, a sacred time for Muslims and those of the Islamic faith. During Ramadan, people fast, or refrain from eating and drinking, while it's light outside. To best support our students taking part in Ramadan, this Ramadan Message was shared with district staff.
Please enjoy some sunny weather this weekend and know that my door is always open!
Warmly,
Toni Presta
Superintendent

CA Department of Education Making Schools Safer and More Supportive for LGBTQ+ Youth
“Many LGBTQ+ students, for too long, have failed to report issues of harassment and violence. This is unacceptable; it is vital we create the same opportunities for a quality public education in an environment that accepts all students for who they are,” said Superintendent Thurmond. “We are proud to partner with the Los Angeles County Office of Education to lead trainings that will provide our teachers with the critical resources they need to help California’s LGBTQ+ students.”
As a district, we support practices of equity and inclusion for all students, including students from our LGBTQ+ community. To learn more about the District's nondiscrimination policy, please read Board Policy 5145.3, along with our Equity Statement.
Women's History Month Continues
Throughout the month of March, we'll continue to honor women who have positively transformed and impacted the landscape of our society. Today, we share with you the untold history of women in science and technology.
From the White House archives of former President Barack Obama, listen to women from across the Administration tell the stories of their personal heroes across the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) by clicking here.

JUHSD's Equity Statement
As a district, we embrace inclusion, value diversity, and educate ourselves in order to confront and dismantle systemic inequities to bring about a more just society. JUHSD commits to engaging, educating, and empowering ALL students, with an intentional focus on those under-served, inadequately served, or disenfranchised by educational institutions and systems, eliminating disparities in educational outcomes.
