MCES WEEKLY TOP FIVE FOR PARENTS

UPDATES FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 6

A MESSAGE FROM THE ADMINISTRATION TEAM

Good afternoon Montclair Families,

We have been enjoying our students being back in the building. Thank you for trusting us with your children. The staff at Montclair want to make this the best "Great Comeback" ever. As a part of this Great Comeback, we need your help.

As a reminder, if your child is sick, please keep them home. We recognize that students need to be in school, but we have to protect all students. If your child comes to school and displays symptoms related to Covid 19, one of our staff members will call you to come to pick your child up. It is expected that you must take your child to your family physician's or one of the health clinics to have your child checked out. You must provide written documentation that your child is healthy enough to return to school. Your child will not be allowed to return to school until you have provided a written note by the doctor.

Parents with students in the Third Grade, next week students will be taking the Beginning of Grade Third Grade Reading Test. The test date is set for September 08, 2021. The BOG3 is not a pass or fail test; it is an assessment for our Third Grade team to see where the students are and where we would need to get them to become academically proficient. Our goal is to ensure that all of our students are reading on or above grade level. Please encourage your students not to stress about the test but to try to do their very best. This week their homeroom teacher sent home a parent letter discussing the purpose of this assessment. You must bring your child to school on time so that they can assess. The BOG3 will begin no later than 9:00, so please have them here rested and ready. If you have any questions about testing, don't hesitate to contact Mr.Gillespie, the Test Coordinator.

Additionally, as we continue with the school year, we would like to stress the procedures for early check out and change of transportation to our families. Our students need to be here on time as every minute counts, starting at 8:30 AM. Parents, for the safety and security of your child, there will be no check-outs after 2:40. During this time, the teachers and other staff members are preparing for dismissal and want to make sure every student is where they are supposed to be for pick-up. Additionally, a change of transportation needs to be shared with the classroom teacher and the office staff in written format. For example, if you would like your son/daughter to be picked up in the afternoon and they are usually bus riders, you will need to submit a note or an email stating that you wish to make those changes. This procedure is for temporary or permanent changes.

Thank you so much for your time as we look forward to a year and rebuilding, refocusing, and reassuring all stakeholders on being Montclair Strong. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns for administrators, please feel free to email us, use Classdojo or contact us in our Facebook group.
