Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for taking time to visit with us regarding your child's progress. It is always fun getting to know you more and of course working together to better your child's education. Please know that we are always available to field questions or concerns regarding the classroom or your child.
A Note From Mrs. Mays...
Thank you again,
Mrs. Mays
HOMEWORK AND IPADS
Please review iPad etiquette with your child.
· iPads should be used for educational purposes
· iPads should be used only when there is an adult present
· iPads should be handled carefully
· iPads need to come to school FULLY charged each day
· We will do surprise checks on iPads checking history and emails. The history of your child’s iPad should never be erased. We also encourage you to do routine checks on the iPad too.
Remember your child’s spelling list and Rocket Math Log can be found in the app NOTABILITY. Notability does not require Wi-Fi to access. The students also can fill in the log on their iPad and it will save automatically.
In addition, your child can also use the iPad to study their spelling words, practice math facts, and practice or challenge themselves on IXL. There are several other educational apps that your child may be using in class or be introduced to as the year progresses.
POSSIBLE IXL FOCUS AREAS for Math:
A1 – A4: Numbers and Comparing
B1 – B8: Place Value
E1 – E8: Understand Multiplication
P1 – P8: Estimation and Rounding
Educational Apps:
NOTABILITY:
Where their weekly homework can be find. They do NOT need Wi-Fi to access it and complete it.
SPELL BOARD:
Their spelling words are housed in this app. Each week they can find the words that they are focusing on and several activities that they can do that will help them practice their words.
TIMED MATH:
They can work on math fluency with this app. The object is to complete as many problems as possible in a minute.
IXL MATH:
This app will allow them to focus in on a specific grade level strategy that they are working on in class. It can also be used as enrichment allowing the child to continue into a grade above if appropriate.
IXL Language Arts:
This app is similar to the math in that it is specific to the grade level strategies that are being taught in class.
With the IXL apps we will note what area we are focusing on each week so that your child can practice at home as well.
Reading Calendars
Reading calendars will be due at the beginning of each month. Each month your child will be required to read a set amount of minutes. November calendars went home on the second and reading goal for this month is 300 minutes! Reading calendars will be due on or before December 2nd.
Math
We have finished our chapter on rounding and estimates and mental math strategies and have moved on to the beginning of multiplication! The students have been having a good time using lots of hands on games to work out forming addition and multiplication problems. They all seem excited to learn this next step!
Language Arts
Writing
Social Studies
Our salmon eggs will be coming on Monday. Mrs. Dhaseleer will be traveling to the Platte River State Fish Hatchery to pick up our salmon eggs. We will be observing our eggs as we learn about life cycles.
Holiday Fun
In December we will be making a holiday gift for you. We would appreciate it if everyone could bring in $3.00 to help pay for the cost of it. Please have this money in by December 2nd. If this is a hardship at this time please let us know so that we can make special accommodations.
PLEASE DRESS YOUR CHILD FOR THE WEATHER
With the weather quickly changing, it is important that the students dress appropriately each day. We go out for recess daily. Please be sure that your child is dressed warmly for the day. Please label your child’s snow pants, coats, etc. with their first and last name. Thank You!
