Weekly Counselor Digest:
According to a report from the department of education: “Chronic absenteeism may prevent children from reaching early learning milestones.” Continue to focus on coming to school with your student by helping them identify what they look forward to at school: friends, teachers, lunch, recess, and more!
The counseling office has been working with your school on de-escalation, a fancy way of saying - how to help kids calm their brains down during the day. Talk to your student about the importance of taking full advantage of those brain breaks throughout the day...they ACTUALLY help you brain relax and become ready for new material
Remember grief support is available to your student if you would like more information on that - please reach out to me
Activity to try at home: with your family, sit down (maybe over dinner) and encourage your student to openly discuss how they feel… model the use of feeling words like; happy, mad, sad, lonely, silly, etc… afterwards talk to your student about why it is important to identify how they feel.
