Sustain DCSD

End of Year Edition 2016

Unplug for the Summer!

Don't forget: Before you leave your classroom or office for the summer, please unplug all devices that won't be used until you return. Energy vampires such as below continue to use energy if they are plugged in, even if they are turned off!

  • Computers
  • Charging carts
  • Tablets
  • Coffee makers
  • TVs
  • Small appliances

Thank you for doing your part to conserve energy!

Congratulations Highlands Ranch High School!

Colorado's first and the nation's 6th high school to receive the prestigious Eco-Schools USA Green Flag Award! Thank you to all the students who left a green legacy for the community. Thank you to Heather Berry, AP Environmental Science teacher, for inspiring your students to address real issues of sustainability. Thanks to the building engineer Wayne Koehn and your team for your partnership. Finally, thank you to all the administrators and community members who helped to make this happen. So much work went into this award and we appreciate all you do. A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS HRHS!

DCSD Professional Development going green!

Our very own Professional Development office grew tired of using enormous amounts of chart paper for their trainings, it just wasn't sustainable! So, they put out an SOS to the Office of Sustainability, who helped them to get a large marker board and then purchased even more marker boards themselves! Now they use much less paper, and clearly have a lot more fun, creating better visuals for better learning. Thank you PD for thinking green!
