The conference portal closes on November 14th. Conferences will be held November 17th from 5-8PM, November 21st from 8AM-8PM, and November 22nd from 8AM-12PM. Please sign-up with your child's homeroom teacher. If you would like to meet with all 3 of us, please contact one of us here at school. We will make that happen if you give us a preferred time. For example, tell us after 5 or before 10. Thank you so much for your willingness to be a part of your child's education.
We will be working on Unit 3 during the month of November. Unit 3 will focus on decimal operations and percent. A new concept that the students will be introduced to are Box Plots. We will practice how to create and how to read them. We will be reviewing traditional long division in this unit. Please work with your child at home practicing how to divide. I have included the vocabulary words that we will be using in Unit 3.

Here is what is happening this month in each subject area in Mrs. Seufert’s classroom.
Word Work-We will be continuing our study of root word throughout this month. Each week the students will have a new set of roots. We will do various activities throughout the week to learn the roots, and then the students will have a quiz on them on Friday. There will NOT be a cumulative test on all of the roots as there was for prefixes.
Writing- We are starting our new unit on Argumentative writing. This unit is really similar to writing Text-Dependent Analysis (TDA) responses. The students will be writing three pieces in the second marking period. This month we will be working on character-based argumentative pieces related to a story that the students will read.
Science-We have begun our first big unit on energy. We will be working all month on topics related to energy. The students will be taking notes, completing left-side activities, and doing experiments on each new topic. They will have a quiz on Nov. 4th and Nov. 18th. We will be finishing our unit on energy after Thanksgiving in December.
BizTown-We had a successful end to BizTown! I am proud to say that all businesses were successful in paying off their loans and making a profit! All of the students worked hard and applied their skills that they learned here at school. I am hoping this experience will be one that the students will never forget, and they will carry those life-long skills with them into the future!
Reading journals continue to be due on your child's assigned day. No journals will be due around the Thanksgiving holiday beginning on November 17th and ending December 2nd, Journals will resume on December 5th.
Book orders will be sent home on October 31st. They will be due on November 8th so that I can ensure that they are delivered before our lengthy Thanksgiving vacation.
