Math Interventions
Do you have students that are struggling with math even after differentiating in class? Do you have students who have gaps in their math learning and foundational understanding? Would you like some high-quality materials that have proven to meet the needs of struggling math students? If so, your team should consider participating in the extension of the elementary math interventions next year. Commitment includes
- one team member attending up to 2 release days next year,
- all team members giving their class the aMath assessment on FAST Bridge 3 times next year, and
- one or more teachers on your team learning and using the intervention materials (number of intervention groups will vary depending on your building's need and intervention time set-up).
Contact Sherri Lorton by April 30th if your team is interested. Additional Math Intervention teams will be chosen and contacted by May 15th.
End-of-Year (OPTIONAL) Math Benchmark Assessments
Second through fifth grade classes who would like to take the OPTIONAL End-of-Year Math Benchmark can email Sherri by Thursday, April 18th to have copies sent to Print Shop. If you are interested in this assessment, the benchmarks would appear in your trackers April 29. Data for this optional assessment is not pulled district-wide but would be available to you on Mastery Connect if you would like to pull reports. Kindergarten or first grade teams who have a benchmark they would like to give would be encouraged to use the same schedule. Please email Sherri for Mastery Connect entry and copies as well. Please let me know if you have any questions.
K-3 Shared Science Folder and New Lessons
Links for a shared folder where teachers can share resources they have found that have worked well in their classroom for Grades K-3 were shared with EDCs and are also below. Teachers are encouraged to share with each other any websites, videos, lesson plans, and other resources that they have found that align well to our science standards and instructional methods. Second grade already has a document started with some shared resources after our fall PD. Additionally, in second and third grades, some of the curriculum writers have added in some lessons plans for the last unit or two in a similar format to those in our curriculum; these are in the shared folder as well.
Grades 4-5 Science
The curriculum teams for 4th and 5th grade science are wrapping things up; the curriculums will go to the Curriculum Advisory Council in May and to the board this summer. Draft versions, which will be pending Board approval will be available on HowellNET May 15th.
