It is important that we share a consistent message in our slideshow presentations. Please click on the link below and include the Google Slides in your presentations for parents.
Curriculum Reminders/Updates
We will not be administering DIBELS this year.
Reading Wonders can still be used as a resource, however, there will be no workbooks or online access.
GR Leveled library change: K-1, each of you have received a classroom leveled library and the teaching tools. These have already been delivered to your classrooms. 2nd-4th--Each grade level will be sharing 2 full leveled library sets. These are currently being stored in our Curriculum Library. A teaching tool/component kit has been delivered to each of your rooms. Please think about what sharing will look at your grade levels. 5th--We are expecting your literacy kits to arrive next week. Your grade level will be sharing 2 full leveled library sets and you will each have the teaching tool/component kit. Jen will be in charge of tracking the materials for these sets, and I know she appreciates you communicating your plan for sharing the materials.
We will all follow the pacing guides in the '19-'20 team drive folder.
As we try and maintain a guaranteed and viable curriculum for our kids, we will not be purchasing, renewing, or piloting any more programs such as Heggerty, Fastforward, IXL, Reflex, A-Z, Raz Kids, etc. Not all of our students in the township have had access to these programs, as they have been implemented in pockets around the corporation. We will be focusing on our grade level curriculum maps, not themed units anymore. Once our core curriculum is implemented with fidelity, we can have discussion later regarding whether or not adopting additional programs is necessary to meet the needs of our kids.
We are still using Science Fusion and the newspapers for Social Studies.
Important: Please read the District Clarity Checklist below!
Like to plan ahead? You may also want to check out the calendar for our professional development first semester.
Conscious Discipline Updates
Teachers, each of you received the Conscious Discipline book! Related arts teachers, you will receive yours this fall.
We are rolling Conscious Discipline out slowly and with fidelity so that we are all on the same page and feel good about what we are doing.
Components that will continue this year:
-Greeting students at the door daily with greeting visuals posted
-A Brain Start Smart morning meeting with the four components present (unite, connect, disengage stress, commit)
-Building the school family culture
-Modeling and encouraging the breaths (pretzel, star, drain, balloon)
-Student Safe Place
Remember to create a friends and family board with your class at the beginning of the school year. This is a space where students are invited to bring a picture of their family, you can share a picture of your family, and you can add pictures of our school family (and staff members that work with your class often). Our staff friends and family board will be in the front entryway.
Things we can look forward to:
-Rituals
-Routines
-Wish Well- some of you are already nailing this!
Be sure to check out our updated district timeline for Conscious Discipline Implementation.

FTCSC Hedgehog Focus
The Hedgehog Concept is based on an ancient Greek parable that states, "The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing." ... Hedgehogs, however, simplify the world and focus on a single, overarching vision, which they then achieve.
