Principal's Message....
One School, One Book
Our text for One School, One Book this year is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Mrs. Faletti and Mr. Peterson kicked off our school-wide reading event on Monday, April 26th. As a school, we will be reading about Charlie Bucket, Willy Wonka's golden tickets, and the famous chocolate factory throughout the entire month of May. Please watch for dress-up days that correspond with our reading.
Book Fair
Our Book Fair is coming....
- May 4th-7th Classes preview the Book Fair and create their student "wish lists". Copies of the student wish lists will be sent home for parents.
- May 10th-14th Students will have a chance to shop at our Book Fair during their weekly library time.
Teacher Appreciation
May 3rd -7th is Teacher Appreciation Week. We want to thank FORCES for organizing a fun week for both the students and staff at RCES. Click here for the FORCES flyer.
Field Day
RCES will be hosting Field Day this year. We want to thank FORCES for sponsoring some of the activities and purchasing our Field Day T-Shirts!

RCES Summer Camp
RCES will be hosting a summer camp during the month of June. Please watch for more information on dates and times. We will be offering the following classes:
- Mindfulness with Ms. Olson - Students will learn about ways to be healthy, try yoga and breathing exercises, make and enjoy healthy snacks, and learn more about mindfulness. (Incoming 1st-5th graders)
- Camp Invention - We will be hosting another year of Camp Invention. This camp focuses on science, technology, and engineering. Students will create, build, and design throughout the month. (Incoming 4th and 5th graders)
- Novel Studies - This is for our mature readers who are ready to tackle a longer text. Students will be assigned independent reading then work in a group to discuss the ideas they learned from their reading. (Incoming 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders)
- Graphic Novel Studies - This class is for those students who enjoy reading and discussing graphic novels. (Incoming 2nd-5th grader)
- Choir- Our summer choir camp is for students entering 4th-8th grade.

RCES Jump Start Sessions for the 21-22 School Year
Our Jump Start Sessions will run from July 26th-August 5th. Our focus for these sessions will be on ELA and Math. Watch for more information on these sessions in late June.
Remote Learner Device Drop-Off
All devices and non-consumable supplies (dry-erase boards, headphones, charging cords, etc.) should be returned to RCES on May 24th between 9:00-12:00 at door 9 (Walker Street). Remote learners can pick up Field Day T-Shirts and other end-of-year items as well.
Library books may be returned with devices or dropped off in the bin located in our vestibule.
The vestibule is open Monday-Friday 8:30-4:00.
Building Schedule
8:30 Bell-RCES school day begins (If arriving after 8:30, please bring your child to the main entrance.)
2:50 Car riders are called to the cafeteria or gym for dismissal.
3:00 Bus Riders Dismissed
Walkers will be released out the front doors after all buses have cleared the front of the building. (Approximately 3:10)
Remote Learning Schedule
Attendance at all remote sessions (AM and PM) is required for students to be considered present for the day.
8:30 - 9:00 Instruct-ELA Students are expected to watch ELA videos and complete all preparatory work assigned prior to virtual meeting.
9:30 - 10:30 Discuss-ELA
10:30 - 11:00 Practice-ELA
11:00 - 11:30 Small group / Specials (optional)
11:30 - 12:30 Lunch Break
12:30 - 1:00 Instruct-Math Students are expected to watch math videos and complete all preparatory work assigned prior to virtual meeting at 1:00.
2:00 - 2:30 Practice-Math
After 2:30 Small group / Specials (optional)
From The Office
When your child is absent for on-site or remote instruction, it is very important to call the office and provide the reason for the absence before 9:00 AM. If a student is not called in, the absence will be marked unexcused.
Quarantined students too ill to complete their assigned work, must also be called in to the office.
We understand that plans occasionally change for families throughout the day. If you need to change your child’s end of day routine, please notify the office NO LATER than 1:30.

Breakfast at RCES:
Breakfast is served each day at 8:20 in the cafeteria at RCES. If you do not want your child to eat breakfast, please contact the teacher.Lunch at RCES:
In order to keep our students and staff safe, we will not be allowing lunch visitors until Illinois moves to Phase 5.
Parents sending in lunches - Please have your child practice opening containers and other difficult packaging before sending them to school.
