A Note From the Assistant Principal ...
Parents,
With DeKalb County schools remaining open on Election Day (Tuesday, November 7th), we wanted to provide you with some information about our school for this day.
1) Evansdale will have a school resource officer onsite throughout the school day. This individual will be situated at the front hallway of the school.
2) Voting will take place in the library and we will have signs posted instructing the voters where they need to go to vote.
3) Students will be walked to their specials classes and to the cafeteria for lunch by their homeroom teachers and they will be supervised by Evansdale staff during lunch in the cafeteria.
Thanks,
Robert Clayton

Please Take the GA Parent Survey
The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone or tablet. All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.
The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. Results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. The Georgia Parent Survey link is posted below.

STEM News
The 3rd grade team is working on their Georgia Habitats STEM unit. Mr. Colby from Trees Atlanta spoke to students about how trees adapt to their environment, and students participated in a lab to explore the adaptations of bird beaks.
1st grade students are exploring light and how it travels. They will be building structures and exploring how shadows move and change as the sun’s position in the sky changes.
Do you know how much honey a bee has to eat to make a teaspoon of wax to build walls in the hive? Ask a 4th grader! 4th grade visited the Piedmont park apiary on Nov. 2nd. They observed bee hives and studied the honeybee anatomy and work that they do.

Art News
It is that time of year again! Square 1 Art is the fundraiser we do every year to help raise money for next year's art budget. The more sales we get the more art materials we can use during art class! The artwork should have been handed back through couriers with a catalogue and a sample sheet of free stickers! The deadline for ordering is Tuesday, November 7th, and the products will be delivered before winter break, just in time for the holidays! Square 1 Art has everything from pillow cases, iphone cases, aprons, jewelry, mugs, and so much more available for purchase. Please participate in this years fundraiser to help raise money for art supplies! Also, if you received the Seesaw QR codes, please make sure to download Seesaw Family app, not Seesaw Class, to access your child's online portfolio.

Veterans Day at Evansdale
After a week of celebrating and focusing on peace, the French Team would like to commemorate Veterans Day on Friday, November 10th with the entire school. In the U.S., we call it Veteran's Day, for France it's Jour de l'Armistice, and in Canada and the U.K., it's Remembrance Day. Here are our plans for this very special day.
*Messages have been sent home to parents asking them to send in the names of relatives, or others you know who served in the military.
*Students will make poppy flowers (les coquelicots) during French with Mme Lewis, in the immersion classes, and in art class with Mme. Petrucelli and write names of their veterans and active duty members. These flowers will decorate the school.
*There will be a moment of Silence at 11:00 a.m. to mark the signing of the Armistice Treaty in 1918.
*The French Honor Society members (grades 1-4) will bring madeleines (small "memory" cakes) to share as a gesture of peace, kindness and goodwill.
We look forward to this day. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Calling All Male Eagles and Eagle Supporters! It's Time to Walk with a Purpose
Your support is very much needed and will not go unnoticed; there will be a sign-in sheet for each school's male caregivers to sign and if your individual school has 10-15 participants to sign-in then your school will receive credit for one (1) Title One Parent Workshop. The schedule for the walk will go as follows:
Registration Opens at 7:30 AM
8:00 AM - 8:45 AM Breakfast Served
8:45 AM - 8:55 AM Region 2 Facilitator Cleveland Dollison (The Importance of Family Engagement) & Door Prizes
8:55 AM - 9:05 AM Region 2 Superintendent Trenton Arnold addresses the men
9:05 AM - 9:10 AM Male Caregivers Sign their Daily Literacy Pledge to Read 15 min (walk 1 lap) or 25 min (walk 2 laps)
9:10 AM Proceed to track and men will walk according to their pledge
Thank You in Advance for your support in helping to make this first Man 2 Man 5K Literacy Walk Breakfast a huge success. Single handed I can probably only reach about 50 male caregivers but collectively with your support we can reach 250 male caregivers! Region 2 will be Intentional about promoting Literacy.
