REES STAR NEWS
2/1/24 | Principal: Mrs. Lara | Asst.Principal: Mrs. Cherry
Message from the Principal:
Hello, Rees Stars!
February is one of our shorter months, but it is going to be a busy one at Rees!
Friday, February 2nd, will kick off our events with Bubblegum Day! Students can pay $1.00 to receive a Bubblegum pass to chew gum all day. (Please note that students provide their own bubblegum.)
February 5th we will celebrate our phenomenal counselor, Mr. Garcia, on National Counselors Day. Mr. Garcia is known and loved by all of our students and staff. He not only provides social-emotional support to our students and staff, but also our families. We are extremely grateful to have him as our Rees Counselor and can't wait to celebrate him!
The week of February 5-9 students will be taking interim assessments, so we will have a CLOSED campus on Tuesday, February 6th, Friday, February 9th, AND Feb 13, 2024
February 12-16th we will celebrate Kindness Week(see below for details).
February 15th the Children’s Museum of Houston will be at Rees with their “Fun Shops”. This event will have something everyone will love whether it’s math, science, literacy, artistic skills or physical skills. The Children’s Museum will also be providing pizza and drinks for all our families!
Lastly, Rees’ Annual Hoedown will take place Friday, February 23rd. Students will be showing off their dancing skills so they are encouraged to wear their Western attire! Parents are invited and encouraged to come see their little cowgirls and cowboys get ready for Rodeo season.
Your Principal,
Mireya Lara

SAFETY
"Car Rider" arrival and dismissal is by far our largest transportation group taking up a large portion of the neighborhood during peak arrival and dismissal times.
We wanted to remind parents/guardians of the flow of traffic and also ask that that parents remain respectful and courteous of our neighbors and community.
Please refrain from blocking driveways when dropping off or picking up your child from Rees.
We also encourage parents to go through the parent drop off line in the morning, rather than parking in the street and dropping off their child in the front of the school.
We love our Rees Stars and want them to be safe!
On behalf of Rees Elementary we would like to give a HUGE thank you to the YMCA of Greater Houston for their generous donation to our campus. The YMCA funded five ClearTouch panels for our classrooms and 3 magnetic racetracks for our students to use. These interactive boards are used daily by our teachers and students and help teaching and learning fun AND interactive!
THANK YOU, YMCA!
Character Strong
Our character trait for the month of February is:
Kindness: The choice to act with words, gifts, or actions to bring appreciation, positivity, and encouragement to ourselves and others.
Students may wear PINK, with jeans, on Monday's in celebration of our character trait.
