Afternoon Pick Up

We had reports of safety concerns in the parking lot during afternoon pick up. Your help in following our expectations makes sure ALL students leave safely.

Please remember:

1. Do not have your child go into the parking lot without being walked by an adult. If you do not want to leave your car, teach your child to wait at the Drop and Go sidewalk off of the playground. We do not want students entering the parking lot alone.

2. Only park in designated parking spots. If you are waiting for a stop in Drop and Go, please park in one of the designated spots in one of the two parking lots until a spot opens up. Do not fill up the no parking zones as this blocks pedestrian and school bus traffic.

We have over 300 students leaving our building at 3:40PM. It takes a few minutes to move all of those individuals and for all of the traffic to empty. Please give yourself plenty of time to make this transition safe for everyone.

Thank you for your help with this!

Art News

It's Doodle4Google time! Students are learning about Google's annual contest in art class. If your child comes home with a Doodle4Google drawing please help them fill out the top of the form and sign if you agree to having it submitted and I will mail them in this March. Find out more by clicking this link HERE

Students in grades 4 & 5 have started art portfolios using the adobe app Spark Post. This new platform will make a nice transition to middle school where students are already learning to use the app!

Thank you to the 2nd and 3rd graders for their beautiful work creating our flock mural outside the gym coordinating with the music concert theme Wings To Fly. Students were inspired by muralist and video artist in residence Kelsey Montague. If you took photos at the concert please share them with us by tagging me on instagram @art.with.ms.bye using the hashtag #whatliftsyouschools & tag @KelseyMontague:)

Optimist Swim Club - 3rd-5th Grade

Are you interested in joining Hillcrest's Optimist Swim Team? Any 3rd, 4th or 5th grader who would like to represent our school at the city wide swim meet on April 6th, is encouraged to sign up to join the team. Our very own educational assistants, Mrs. Stacy Blank and Mrs. Lyndsy DiNardo, will be coaching our team this year! Please see THIS VIDEO to learn more about being on the team, THIS DOCUMENT for information about practice times, and THIS PERMISSION SLIP when your child is ready to commit to the team.

Waukesha Sings!

On Saturday, April 6th, the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at Hillcrest and at elementary schools throughout the School District of Waukesha have a one day singing opportunity at Waukesha West High School. From 12 p.m. to 5:30, students will be rehearsing music together. Parents DO NOT need to stay with their student all day. However, you will want to return at 5:30 p.m. to hear the terrific concert! Please see the flyer displayed around school and attached in this newsletter. The website is rebrand.ly/waukesha-sings for more information and how to register your child for this event. Deadline is Friday, March 1st. Students MUST register in order to participate. The event is free our charge. Also, students CAN participate in both the optimist swim meet and the choir event! Please see Mrs. Runingen or email her at lruninge@waukesha.k12.wi.us if you have any questions.

Safe Arrival - Available Now!

Hillcrest is now fully up and running with the district's new attendance reporting system, Safe Arrival. Safe Arrival allows you to report an absence or appointment at any time from your phone. Our attendance line is still available for reporting absences but we encourage you to give Safe Arrival a try. We know you will find it to be an easy to use system that is available at times that work for YOU!

1) By far the easiest way to interact with the new system is by downloading the app on your phone and signing up for an account.

2) If you are not an app user and prefer to use your computer signup and login at https://go.schoolmessenger.com/

3) The phone option is still available by calling the attendance line at school. There will be a menu there to transfer your call into the new system. You may however, want to use the direct number 1-866-490-7371. By dialing direct from a phone that is registered with the district, the system should recognize the number you are calling from and be able to quickly identify your children and allow you to confirm their absence.
