Leadership Message
Peace be with you...
“I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid'. John 14:25-27
This weekend I am reminded that not only our school faces "challenges". In preparing to write my own "Leadership Message" I read the newsletter that came from my daughter's school. The theme "Peace" seems to be embedded in their newsletter, too. I know that this week was a difficult week for some students. The office was a hub of activity after each recess. Students were lined up with their tales of woe: kicking, punching, shoving, unkind words said to one another etc... You see the picture.
As we continue to journey together as a faith community, we are challenged and reminded daily to seek peace with one another. Playground disputes, classroom challenges, diversity in learning skills, and friendship issues challenge our children every day. They need us to help them remember to love as Jesus taught us. These important lessons provide our students with opportunities to problem solve, develop effective resolution skills, and deepen their faith connection. Adversity builds resiliency and strength in our children and will help them become the amazing young people God called them to be. Learning how to be a good friend, to share, to celebrate each other's strengths and differences, and how to work with one another are key building blocks for success in our St. John learning community. We continue to celebrate each of your children, the gifts they bring, and the opportunities they have every day to bring peace to our world.
Peace be with you,
Mrs. Melnyk

Leading to Reading!
The City of Fort Saskatchewan Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) in partnership with the Fort Saskatchewan Public Library is once again offering a literacy program called Leading to Reading. This program brings together teens and children to promote both mentorship and a love of reading. The aim of the program is to improve literacy skills by allowing children from Grades 1 - 4 to choose books to read to their teen. Youth from Grades 8 - 12 build leadership skills and empathy through helping their buddy. The program also focuses on literacy games and ideally involves a 1:1 Leader/Buddy Relationship.
The program will run from March 7, 2017 to May 9, 2017. Interested? Registration forms are available here:
Completed forms can be dropped off at the Fort Saskatchewan Public Library.
