D3 Wins Awards at ABE Luncheon
The 40th anniversary Arts Business Education (ABE) luncheon was held Tuesday at the Antlers Hotel. Two students and a teacher from WSD3 took home awards. Jayden Lee, fifth grade student at Widefield Elementary, and Christian Thew, eighth grade student at Watson Junior High, won The Mary Lou Anderson Scholarship Award. Each student received $100 toward art enrichment opportunities. Katherine Whatley, art teacher at Widefield Elementary, was awarded the Distinguished Visual/Literary Arts Teacher award. Katie mentors a before-school Art Club, sponsors the LEGO Robotics Club, and coordinates the Winter Art Gala and Student Awards committee. Most importantly, Katie was a key player in convincing the Colorado Board of Education to accept Widefield in fall of 2019 as a Visual and Performing Arts Innovation School.

Shout out to the entire district for celebrating D3 Day Without Hate!!
There were so many great activities that took place that helped spread the message of kindness, respect and unity. Thank you all for sharing your photos and videos. I'll be sending out a separate email with a quick recap video of the day's events.
The below video comes from Watson Junior High's news team and was created by Demetrius Brown, 8th grade, and Mrs. Alire's 6th grade AVID class.
