Tomlinson Trailblazers
September 19, 2021
School Day: 7:45 a.m. - 3:10 p.m.
Message from the Principal
We're four weeks into the year and getting ready for our first round of progress reports. The first progress report reflects review from the previous year and less rigorous curriculum. Our teachers will do their very best to communicate current data however we are continuing to administer beginning of the year assessments and teachers are still gathering information about their students.
Our dedication celebration is in October. Some of you may have been contacted about having your student participate in the program. If you received a permission form, please sign and return the form right away. If your child is in choir or drama, attendance at practice and performance rehearsals are extremely important. It's a commitment not to be taken lightly!
Don't forget those face masks. Masks are required INSIDE the building. Please send your child to school with a mask every day. While we have extras to give to students in a pinch, they much prefer their own. It's always a good idea to have an extra face mask in the backpack. Also, don't forget those water bottles. It's hot outside and your students come in from recess extra thirsty. Our water bottle refill stations are ready to go!
I hope you'll take a few minutes to read through the newsletter to stay abreast of all campus news. We are blazing the trail together!
Mrs. Tiemann
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY!
Tomlinson Elementary School Advisory Team - Sept. 23rd
Each campus has a School Advisory Team (SAT) consisting of parents, community members, teachers, and administrators. SAT’s primary purpose is to improve student learning and to participate in discussions around the following areas:
- Goal Setting
- School Organization
- Student Advocacy and Support
- Community Outreach
SAT members attend meetings a minimum of four times per year. Dates and times will be set by the SAT at our first meeting on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 3:30 pm in the school library. SAT terms are one or two years in length, and run until the end of the school year. New SAT members will receive training to support them in their role. The School Advisory Team consists of staff, parents, a community member and a business partner. One parent member of SAT is a representative of the PTA, either the PTA president or the PTA president’s designee. As a new campus, we have all positions to fill. SAT representatives will be drawn from all applicants during our first meeting.
If you are interested in being a member of the Tomlinson Elementary School Advisory Team, please fill out the application linked below. If you know someone who is not a parent and would be interested in serving on SAT please share this with them. We are looking for community members and business partners as well.
Safety First!
- Drive slowly in the car line and through the parking lot.
- Keep vehicle stopped until children have cleared the area and have stepped to the curb.
- Watch for pedestrians in all directions.
- When walking from the lot to the building, use the crosswalks.
- Never drop children off in the parking lot and leave them to cross on their own. Moving vehicles may not see your child and children cannot be expected to walk safely alone.
- Remain in a single file car line until past the cross walk.
Always adhere to the directions of the adults and student patrols on duty. These adults and students are there for your safety!

NISD Health Guidelines
NISD continues to follow the recommendations and guidance issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as well as local public health guidance. We anticipate changes and modifications will continue throughout the school year in order to provide the safest situation possible for our students, families and employees.
- District plans include a continued emphasis on sanitation and cleaning of all facilities and physical distancing when possible. A temporary facemask mandate has been instated by the district. Please ensure your child comes to campus with their favorite mask. A spare is always a good idea.
- Routine and frequent cleaning and disinfecting will continue. Frequent handwashing will also be encouraged with hand sanitizer available for students and staff.
- In the event of positive cases of COVID-19, we will follow recommended CDC guidelines for contact tracing and quarantining.
We continue to monitor local health conditions and any changes to these guidelines will be communicated.
Student Classroom Assignments
Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have information about your child that you feel would benefit us in making class placement decisions. Although we try to minimize changes, our grade levels are quickly becoming over full which will lead to changes in staffing.

NISD Notification re: Student Devices for the 2021-22 School Year
Northside has worked to procure devices for students in the district and although technology is not utilized on a daily basis, child(ren) will be provided a device for use in the classroom.
The Northside device is being assigned to your child so he/she can continue their digital learning while participating in Northside curriculum. Every student and parent with a device is responsible for taking care of the device to ensure that present and future students continue to benefit from technology in education (please read more in the NISD Technology Loan Agreement). By accepting this device, you are acknowledging that your student(s) will provide basic care for the device and would otherwise lack a device sufficient to engage in the Northside curriculum.
If your student has their own mobile device that is sufficient to engage in daily learning at home and in school, please notify the district via the NISD Device Lending Agreement on nisd.net/parents page for data gathering purposes. Please note that if your student has an adequate device at home, that will not prevent your student from receiving a district issued device unless you decline/opt out of the Northside device on the nisd.net/parents page via the NISD Device Lending Agreement.
Lastly, if you opt out of a Northside device for your student(s) and wish to switch to a district issued device you will need to revisit the NISD Device Lending Agreement on nisd.net/parents to change your selection at any time.
Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education. We look forward to serving our students in the upcoming school year.
