Nov. 12-16, 2018
Math
Monday, the students will be taking a pretest over rounding. Throughout the rest of the week, we will practice rounding a 2 digit number to the nearest ten and a 3 digit number to the nearest ten and hundred. The students will also learn how to identify the two benchmark numbers & the midpoint along with plotting the given point on the number line.
Reading
Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday, the students will take a look at the meaning of various suffixes. Thursday, they'll play a matching game to review the prefixes & suffixes they've learned. Friday, we'll take a look at how adding a prefix or suffix to a root word causes its meaning to change.
Writing & Spelling
Monday, & Tuesday, the students will be reading their books and taking notes over the important information that they find on their topic. Wednesday, we will practice taking notes from online sources. Thursday, I will outline how to create the first chapter. For each chapter, we will include a main idea sentence, at least 5 facts that support it, and a closing sentence. Friday, the students will put their facts in sequential order and then write their first chapter.
Our Spelling Unit this week will focus on: long i patterns ( i & igh), antonyms, and idioms.
Science
This week, the students will be learning about various animal life cycles including sea turtles, salmon, & chickens. They'll compare & contrast these life cycles to see how the life cycles of a reptile, a fish, & a bird are similar and different.
