Friday, we will move on to author's purpose. An author may chose to write a book to entertain, inform, or persuade his/her audience.

## Writing & Spelling

Monday, the students will finish typing their narrative. Tuesday, we will begin a new writing unit - Informational Writing. I will first model how to outline a topic and 5 main ideas. Next, we will discuss different ways that a table of contents can be organized - by kinds, parts, least to most important, or first to last. The students will then choose their topic and create their own table of contents. Finally, we will discuss ideas that might they write about in their first chapter.

Our Spelling Unit this week is a review unit. We will focus on: vowel-consonant-e; long a, e, & i patterns; and alphabetizing words.

## Science

Monday, the students will learn how to create a Punnett Square and use it to predict all of the possible outcomes for a baby plant's traits. Tuesday & Thursday, the students will take what they have learned about dominant & recessive traits and apply it to the plants they have been growing in our classroom. We will analyze their plants and deduce the genotype of the grand-parents, parents, & the baby plant.

Friday, we will begin a new Science unit - Plant Life Cycles. We'll begin by taking a look at some fruit & vegetables. The students will determine if they are the root, stem, flower, seed, or fruit of a plant.
