December 9 - 11, Brenda Burkett and/or I will be available to do Hour of Code Lessons with your students. We will talk about Computer Programming and coding and explore a couple of coding apps. Each lesson will take about an hour. Please let us know if you would like to sign up for a time!

Student Book Budget Committee

Did you know that 10 5th graders have been working on a book order with me during their lunch and recess time?! They have surveyed students in K - 5 grade, looked through catalogs, met with a book vendor, browsed books for the library at Book Fair, and have brainstormed titles they would like to see in our library. We hope to place our book order the first week in December. When the books come in, the Student Book Budget Committee will be responsible for creating a display for the new books! I am excited to see what books they select! Stay tuned!

Learn360

We hope you are enjoying this new resource from ETV! Debbie Jarrett from ETV will be with us on Monday, December 8 to go over how to use this resource. If you are not able to login to StreamlineSC or Learn360, please let me know before December 8!

iPads and Laptops

We are thrilled that the iPads and laptops are so popular and that you are using them with your students! When you reserve equipment on the calendar, please keep the following in mind:

*When you schedule the iPads, be sure to include exactly how many you need. We have a total of 46 iPads. Same with the laptops. There are 8 laptops.

*You schedule equipment for a certain time (for example, 8am - 9:30am). Please return what you check out at the scheduled time (in this case, 9:30am). There is often someone who needs them right away when you are finished.

*When you get a cart of iPads, please be sure to put iPads back in the correct slots (the slots in the cart and the iPads are numbered), with all iPads facing in the correct direction.

*Be mindful of creating recurring appointments on the Google Calendar. There are times that the iPads and laptops are reserved months in advance for special projects and events. If you have a recurring appointment, you may overlap with a special project or event.

Thank you so much for your help! If YOU ever need an extra set of hands or eyes when using the iPads or laptops with your class, please let your Learning Commons Team know!

Makerspace Moments! Spotlight: TOY TAKE APART

Makerspace Moments are a time when students can come to the Learning Commons to explore and create. Students created some wonderful cardboard creations in September and October and had fun with CIRCUITS in November. This month we are looking at TOYS! There will be a variety of mechanical toys in the Makerspace for students to take apart and put back together.

There will also be crafts set up for holiday ornaments and perler beads!

If you would like to participate as a class, let me know and we can work something out!

The Makerspace Moments schedule:

Tuesdays 9am - 10am AND 12:30pm-1pm

Wednesdays 12pm - 1pm

FYI - There will not be an after school Make Shop in December. Thank you!
