From the District Chair
- Friends of Scouting – 2020 Campaign is underway. To date we have raised 42.3% of our Goal of $26,000. Get your unit presentation date on the calendar with Kyle Johnson johnson.kyle.ray@gmail.com so that we can schedule presenters for your unit.
- Santa Fe/Brazos Valley Combined (Dual) District Camporee is coming Mar 27-29. Sign up now!!!
- National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Eagle Scout Recognition and Scholarship Program is offering opportunity for College Scholarships (1st Place - $10,000, Runner Up - $6,000 and 2nd Runner Up - $4,000). Application year is January 1 to December 31. Eagle Scouts currently registered in an active unit and who have not reached their 19th birthday during the year of application can submit. - If you were not aware, the Brazos Valley District maintains a calendar of upcoming events that is accessible to all. The link to the calendar can be found here BVD-21 Calendar.
- 2020 Unit Service Hour Challenge. I would like to request all units to provide a minimum of 100 hours of Service to their Chartered Organization by June 30, 2020. We owe our Chartered Organizations a lot of thanks for hosting us and this is one way to show our appreciation. Service Hours have to be entered into the MyScouting.Org Service Hour section as they are not automatically transferred from Scouting apps. I am attaching a form that you can complete and send to my attention and I will ensure your unit is credited with the Service Hours. Let’s shoot for 100 hours in ½ Year in 2020.
- Begin planning now to attend the April 4, 2020 Brazos Valley District Awards Banquet!!!! And don’t forget to submit your nominations for District Award of Merit, 2020 BVD Volunteer Award and Silver Beaver Nomination forms. Contact Jack Wilkes at BVD21Chair@gmail.com to get a form sent to you.

Let’s welcome our new units and wish our outstanding units that will be “seasoning” other Districts in the Longhorn Council the Best for the Future. Weatherford 4 District plans to continue working jointly with other Districts around us to provide outstanding service to all of our Scouts in delivering the Promise!
Note for Adults: Just because your “unit” is in another District, as an adult Scouter, you can still participate in the District you are coming from.

From the Camping Committee
Good News for Cub Scout Family Camping ALL the National, State, and Corps of Engineers Campgrounds within Longhorn Council will soon be added to the list of approved Cub camping sites.
Camp Improvements, Tahuaya has 3 new central Bathrooms and shower facilities open and ready for use.
At Sid Richardson Scout Ranch, We are working on the Mountain Bike Trail and rebuilding the Cairns for the 30mile hiking trail. The new SR@ trail maps are on the Council web site.
Mark your calendar, 2020 Spring Dual District Camporee planned for the weekend of March 27-29,2020. the Leaders guide we sent out will have to have some updates, Sorry things happen. Dates have not changed, so plan to come and have some great scouting fun. We will try to get the updated leaders guide to you soon.
Chislom Trail High Adventure Open house will run on Friday's June 12,19, and 26th 2020
It will be free to attend for 2 adults and 2 youth 14 and up from every Troop or Crew in Longhorn Council.
Come experience some of the High Adventure our camps have to offer.
It's never too early to start thinking about Summer Camp 2020. Longhorn Council has set some Discounts for next summer:
Week 3 discount $5 per person,
Week 4 discount $10 per person.
Any new Girl Troops can get 10% off the Chisolm Trail High Adventure
Any Unit going to the Brazos River Canoe Trip as a shakedown for Northern Tier can also save 10%

Special guests were Asst Area Commissioners, David Hamilton, and Dave Fornadel, with Dr. Laura Paul from the Civil Air Patrol, and a special message from National Commissioner Ellie Morrison.
Our Own Scout Master Loompas talked about his role in Longhorn Council and was Special guest with the Canyon Local Fire Department.
The Class honored fallen USMC Service Dog Max from the Brazos Valley District.

Troops and Crews in the Na Ha Nini Chapter are holding their 2020 Order of the Arrow Elections. In addition to elected scout candidates for the OA, adult candidates can be nominated based on the number of elected scouts. Election reports and adult nominations are due before February 27th, and don’t forget your dues!
Need a Summer Job that allows you to use and share your scout skills? Consider applying for Summer Camp Staff!!! Interview dates are February 9th and March 15th.
This months Chapter Meeting will be at the Brazos Valley District Roundtable. ALL Arrowmen Welcome!
Upcoming OA activities include….
Spring Fellowship – Arrowmen from all Chapters in the Netopalis Sipo Schipinachk Lodge are invited to come out to Worth Ranch for a weekend of fellowship, fun, food, and competition. If you think the OA is only about the Ordeal, come checkout this weekend. Come meet the other members of the Lodge before Section Conclave. February 28 – March 1, Worth Ranch.
SR-2 Section Conclave - Join us in brotherhood as we meet up with Arrowmen from across North Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. The OA Southern Region-2 is coming to Camp Constantin, April 17-19. All of the activities, crafts, fun, and competition (Lodge Ball, Ultimate Frisbee…) of a Camporee with an OA twist.

OA Fun Day – Again, another opportunity to see that OA isn’t just Ordeals! July 25th.
National Order of the Arrow Conference 2020 – NOAC 2020, August 3rd – 8th, is held at Michigan State University and consists of wide variety of training, ceremony competitions, fun activities, great shows, and sharing experiences with fellow OA members from around the country. The estimated cost of $995 includes registration, dorm housing, meals, Lodge SWAG, and transportation. Deposit required at registration with partial payments due between now and May 15th.
