A Word from Dina and Anna
I recently read something very appropriate. For teachers, May is the cruelest month.
May is the month of looking back. We take stock of our students' progress, and our own. We begin cleaning up and everything reminds us of what we did this year.
May is the month of looking ahead. We begin making rosters of next year's classes, look ahead at what we can modify for next year. Start looking at summer school and making summer plans for ourselves, too. We also begin looking at any hiring that needs to be done for the coming year.
May is the month of holding on. We hold on to students and classes for whome we've developed affection and appreciation. We hold on to those thoughts that we can still accomplish this year. We hold on to rules and routines to help things go smoothly. We hold on to our sense of humor and sanity!
May is the month of letting go. Students are about to move on. Colleagues also move on. Letting go is bittersweet.
May is the month of chaos. We have finished testing and await results. Stress builds up among students, parents and teachers as we all struggle to get things done in such a short time.
