Local Architect, Mike Bates, Donates to Denton ISD Art Programs
Denton ISD Fine Arts is extremely grateful to Michael Bates, architect from BatesMartin for providing every elementary art program in Denton ISD a Michael’s Gift Card for $100. The art teachers were thrilled to receive this generous donation which makes more possible for students.
Dr. Jackie deMontmollin, Director of Fine Arts, expressed, “Art involves hands on, project-based learning with consumable materials; having the opportunity for additional supplies enhances student learning! It’s such an honor to our teachers and students that Mr. Bates took this generous step to make more possible for every elementary school in Denton ISD!”
Stacy Bzdok, Art Specialist at Cross Oaks Elementary expressed her gratitude, “The generous donation of the Michael’s gift card from Mr. Bates will be used to purchase a new cutting mat, quilting rulers, and binding for our Cross Oaks Quilting Club. This will mean more time for students to create and less time for them to wait. Our quilting club is only able to happen because of donations like this. It is free for the students to participate, and everything we use to create the beautiful quilts is donated. Thank you, Mike Bates for being an advocate of the arts in Denton ISD!”
Brian Gomez, Art Specialist at Hodge Elementary added, “I was happy to have been the art teacher for the Bates' children when they attended Hodge. I appreciate that a professional from our community gives so generously to help support the arts in our schools.”
On Saturday, October 15, band students from Denton ISD's eight middle schools auditioned for the All-District Middle School Band. The 97 students listed here were selected as the top performers on their respective instruments and named to the band. These students will have the opportunity to perform in the annual All-District Band Clinic and Concert on Friday, January 6.
Congratulations to these outstanding band students for this achievement. Many thanks to their awesome directors and private lesson teachers for helping them prepare for the audition.

Fine Arts Event Bus Drivers Needed
Denton ISD is in need of extra bus drivers for Fine Arts trips, like contests, field trips, and football games. Drivers are paid $20 per hour to drive groups to field trips, contests, and after school/weekend events. This is an excellent, flexible part-time job, and a wonderful way to serve students in Denton ISD. We encourage Denton ISD volunteers and PTA members to consider applying for this as an option to serve the students and programs in Denton ISD, and an opportunity to gain some extra income. Click this link to apply and share it with anyone who would be interested. The job description is titled, “Bus Driver-Special Events”.
Candidates need to earn their CDL, which can be done through the Denton ISD Transportation Department, 940-369-0317. Once hired as a Bus Driver-Special Events, a driver could drive groups to field trips, contests, and events, helping to get students and their teachers/chaperones to their destination safely and on time. This important work makes Fine Arts contests and events possible and contributes greatly to the educational experience of our students. Please share the application link above with anyone who would be interested in this opportunity.
Check out the upcoming events on the calendars below and make plans to
enjoy the outstanding work by Denton ISD's Fine Arts students!
