We are aware that a very small number of Hazel Class parents did not have the opportunity to meet with Mrs Pratt for their 'Meet The Teacher' appointment.

Hazel Class visit from PCSO for internet safety education

Hazel Class pupils enjoyed meeting PCSO Alison Darvill just before half term. Alison was here to teach the pupils all about internet safety.

Mrs. Pratt Update

Mrs. Pratt had her cast changed last week and she is looking forward to a short (below the elbow) cast being fitted soon. She's still in some pain and is still unable to drive. However, she's keeping her spirits high with the hope of being able to drive closer to Christmas. She also reports that she's becoming adept at using the dictation app on her phone because she can't type anything. Keep up those oracy skills, Mrs. Pratt and we miss you and wish you well!

After School Clubs - reminder

We'd like to remind all parents and carers to please book places in advance for After School Club, as we need your online consent for your child to participate. Similarly, if you do not require your booked place, please let us know so that we can open it up to another child.

Cross Country Success!

Bardwell School pupils took part in a virtual Cross Country competition recently and we are thrilled that some children have won individual medals, and that the school won a Silver in the team event for Y3/Y4 and Bronze for the Y5/Y6 team.

Look out for some Bardwellians at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles or maybe 2032 in Brisbane!

For those who've won a medal - we will get these from the Sports Partnership very soon and Mr Hurkett will hand them out.

Years 5 & 6 residential

All the pupils had an amazing time on their recent residential trip to Lincolnshire, with PGL. Miss Mansfield and Mr Francksen kept everyone up-to-date on Class Dojo and on our Twitter page.

If you've not yet logged into Class Dojo for your child(ren), please do so, you were sent a link at the start of term, please ask if you need a reminder. Your child's teacher shares important messages with you on here.

We'd also encourage you to follow us on Twitter - our public platform. Do feel free to Retweet us every now and again!

Parent/carer survey

We are really happy that so many of you have already responded to the parent/carer survey, and that your responses are overwhelmingly positive, your feedback is wonderful to read - thank you.

If you've raised anything that we'd like to know more about, I will be in touch over the next couple of weeks to discuss with you.

If you have yet to complete the survey, please do so here.

Taster sessions for prospective YR pupils starting school in September 2022

The first of these sessions took part on Thursday 4th November and we were delighted to welcome some new families to the school - all children left with their very own packet of wildflower seeds, thanks to our wonderful School Council.

All sessions will now all be run outside as a result of the recent changes in Suffolk Public Health advice regarding visitors into schools.

Please contact the school office if you would like to attend or book online.

We would also appreciate you letting others know about these sessions, via email or your social networks. Please download a pdf (for emailing) or an image file (for social media) and share away! If you have a child in a local nursery and can put up a poster there, please speak to Mrs Allman who will provide a hard copy

Applications for a primary school place 2022

From Suffolk County Council:

We are trying to reach all parents/carers of pre-school children who were born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018. It is very important that they make an application for a full-time school place for their child for September 2022 by the closing date of Saturday 15 January 2022.

All of the information parents/carers need to help them make their decision is available on our website at www.suffolk.gov.uk/admissions, including information about the School Travel Policy and some School Travel Scenarios.

Parents/carers should apply for a school place online at www.suffolk.gov.uk/admissions. Only those who are unable to apply online should complete and return to us a paper CAF1 application form which is available to download from www.suffolk.gov.uk/admissions or by contacting us on 0345 600 0981.

Change to lunch menu - reminder

Following feedback from children and yourselves (thank you to those who completed the survey), our cook has now revised the school's lunch menu.

This started on Monday 1st November and is always available on our website.

Hard copies are also available from the office.

A welcome return

We were delighted to have Imogen and Tilly back in school just before half term. They both left in Summer 2021 and are now at secondary school, but volunteered to give up one of their half term days to come in and help with Hazel, Silver Birch and Rowan Classes. It was great to see them and hear all about how well they've adjusted to their new schools. Thanks for coming in girls - nice hoodies!

Information from the National Sleep Helpline

We are circulating information about the new National Sleep Helpline to school nurses, SEND leads, and anyone responsible for child health and well being. One in four children in the UK are not getting enough sleep, this has an impact on their behaviour and ability to learn, as well as their physical health.

Our free helpline is run by trained sleep advisors who can talk to young people directly, or parents (we can also talk to parents about their own sleep issues). We wondered if the attached posters could be emailed to parents and/or displayed around the school?

The helpline is open 5 nights a week, Sunday to Thursday, 7-9pm and the number is 03303 530 541.

You can read more here: https://thesleepcharity.org.uk/national-sleep-helpline/
