AVID Strategy for December: Language Functions
Language functions provide students the opportunity to organize their thoughts and structure language to bes accomplish the communication task at hand. Click the flyer for more information.
YWLA AVID
YWLA AVID is working hard on the foundational components of AVID such as note-taking, annotations and the tutorial process. TRFs are not just for questions from their core classes. Students are using this strategy with practice SAT questions. YWLA is committed to consistency across all grade levels and intentionally focusing on quality implementation for the benefit of their students.

Students engaged in a Socratic Seminar about the increased representation by women in Congress. They did a great job using their academic language scripts and building on each other’s ideas.

GPA Analysis, Reflection & Goal Setting
With three weeks left in the semester, Mrs. Pardo was modeling calculating Suzy Q’s GPA. Students then reflected on their grades and set goals for the rest of the nine weeks.
Dream Book Journal
Every week, Bonham students engage in self reflection on various topics. This week students created a timeline of their feelings with Math and what events led to those feelings.
College and Major of the Month
AVID and IB Unite
The IB support team engaged in AVID training on the critical reading process and academic language scripts. We intentionally focused on connecting WICOR strategies and ATL skills.
Rehearsal and Revision
Participants used rehearsal and revision to practice reading their vocabulary sentences out loud. They also had the opportunities to provide feedback for revisions.
Writing in the Margins
Participants jigsawed the six writing in the margins strategies.

AVID Coordinator Meeting
AVID Coordinators engaged in the Gratitude Game with M&Ms to share what they were grateful for ahead of the holiday break. They participated in inner and outer cirlces as they shared their areas of strength, growth and types of evidence for the CCI. They completed one pagers on the strengths and opportunities for growth and provided feedback.

After completing a draft of their CCI, coordinators created one pagers where they identified areas of strength and opportunities for growth in each of the domains.

Gallery Walk Feedback
After coordinators posted their CCI one pagers, they completed a gallery walk where they left post-its with glows (commendations) for areas of strength and grows (recommendations) for opportunities for growth.

AVID Senior Superstars
This interactiv board highlights seniors and their hopeful new directions for their lives. QR codes link to the school websites where they applied.
1st Semester Glow and Grow
Students will rotate in groups through the core content boards. Each content containts a two column graphic organizer: Glow and Grow. Students write in the area of succes (glow) and an areas of growth (grow). After completing the circuit, students will gallery walk and read their fellow classmate's notes. Try to build connections from the Glow to the Grow side.
