Diversity Day at Village Oaks
Start planning for Diversity Day
Diversity Day
Dear Families, As we look around at all the students we have at Village Oaks, we are so fortunate to see so many cultures, religions, traditions. and languages spoken. In the next couple of weeks, we are asking students and their families to explore their own culture as a special school project. As a culminating activity, students will participate in Diversity Day on Tuesday, November 26 th. Students will get to share with their classmates what they feel makes them special! Students should come prepared with something they feel makes them special and can share with their classmates. Do they have a favorite family celebration or tradition like baking cookies or going to the Tigers game every summer? Do they speak another language at home and want to teach someone in class a few words? Do they know a special dance from their culture and want to show the class some moves? Do they have a special type of dress/outfit they’d like to wear with a reason behind it? If another student were to visit their country what would they recommend they do? Do they have a favorite family recipe to share? Have them bring in the recipe to share with the class (due to allergies, please no samples ). Students will be presenting in their own classroom on this special day before Thanksgiving break. In order to accommodate all students, please limit sharing to 2-3 minutes. What a special time to be “Thankful for ME!”
