Joyfully Embracing Our Mission

Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
We, the St. Clare School Community, joyfully embrace the Gospel mission entrusted by Christ to His Church.
Believing that everyone is made in the image and likeness of God, we cherish and celebrate our diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Dear St. Clare School Families,
This past week was another exciting week for our students: a couple of blustery days kept the students inside most of the time and creative perseverance allowed us to continue to enjoy and celebrate special events. Thank God for patience from all: teachers, students, CKZ staff and parents as we switched and pivoted to accommodate everyone's safety.
On Wednesday, we celebrated the Year of the Pig with a Lunar New Year Assembly. Our middle schoolers piled in to the elementary hallway while our lion dancers entertained, TK and Kinder students paraded in traditional garb and class representatives presented red envelopes and flowers to our faculty and staff. Thank you to the many parents who helped coordinate this beautiful event with a huge thank you to Ms. Pham (Miette and Zane's mom) and her crew for the meaningful introduction to the assembly and for making Plan B seem so effortless. Thank you to all the parents who came to celebrate with us. Your presence at these events really show our students, faculty and staff how much you care about our community. Thank you!
Thursday was spent celebrating Valentine's Day, not just with cards, treats and flowers, but also with loving acts of kindness. The faculty and staff appreciate your gestures of appreciation. You truly are a gift to us all.
Our eighth graders received their Class of 2019 sweatshirts, signaling the beginning of the home stretch of their career as St. Clare Wildcats. The sweatshirt design credit goes to Maren and Kierah with input from classmates. Our hope is that this small token of how proud we are of this class resonates each time they wear it as part of the uniform through the time they don their graduation gowns.
We continue our tremendous academic program with about two more weeks before the end of the second trimester. Students are experiencing growth academically, spiritually and personally. Teachers are continuing to build capacity to become even better at their craft. Middle schoolers have begun preparing for the Science/Innovator's Fair in April and the seventh graders have begun their partnership with Santa Clara University Meridian Stories projects. Eighth graders will begin to explore ideas for their Capstone Projects and our fourth graders just completed their California Mission projects (these will be on display in the hallways next week: come and check them out!).
This past weekend, we saw over twenty prospective students seeking a place at St. Clare School. About six or seven of them are siblings of current students. We can't wait for them to join our school community "officially" in the 2019-2020 school year. We continue to receive inquiries for enrollment and encourage our families to spread the good news that is St. Clare!
This coming Saturday, we will be gathering in the Adobe Lodge for our Annual Benefit. Thank you to many of you who contributed towards sponsorships of teachers, classroom baskets, Buy-a-Spot events and for giving of your time and your talent to this enterprise. Thank you to the PTG leadership for their hard work. We hope to be able to make this year's event a significant fundraising event as well as a fun-raising evening for all!
SAVE THE DATES: More Exciting St. Clare Happenings to Come!
The FESTIVAL planning committee is busy preparing for this highly anticipated event on June 7, 8 and 9. Look for a teacher booth, exciting silent auction items, talent showcase spots throughout the weekend and of course, lots and lots of great food, drink and carnival rides and games for all ages! Contact Jasmine Vu, Hazel Alabado and Lisa Reckis if you have any questions or if you'd like to provide your expertise. Volunteer opportunities will be communicated soon.
Check out these community-building events in the spring: VIP Day on April 4, Talent Show on May 10, Fine Arts Week and a possible Spring Concert, a Field Day and the end-of-the-year BBQ, which I heard has become a reunion of sorts for our alumni as well! Lots of joyful celebrations and opportunities to gather as a community.
We are grateful for your support of the Annual Fund. Thank you to those who have sent in checks, contributed through the school store or WeShare and to those who continue to support our school through acts of kindness, by sharing their gifts of talent and time. We are overwhelmed by your support. If you haven't already seen it, we were gifted with a second water refilling station which was installed in the middle school last week by Larry Heller and Matt Dutra. Thank you to Tola Dalton and Joe Baldwin for researching and sourcing these out.
I've included some resources to help us better understand the different ways in which our students learn as well as ways that we can guide them to make the right choices as they interact with one another as digital citizens. It truly does take a village and thankfully, we have many resources at our disposal. It is important to keep your child's teacher informed of any concerns any issues that might impact their day at school.
On dreary, stormy, blustery days, it can be hard to find hope. Your support, your kindness and your efforts to continue to build community through dialog and communication gives us hope.
Let's teach our children to be harbingers of hope for one another and by persevering through adversity and developing a stronger sense of self especially when they encounter challenges.
Pope Francis offers offers a profound reflection on what hope truly means for us as Christians:
"To Christians, the future does have a name, and its name is HOPE. Feeling hopeful does not mean to be optimistically naive and ignore the tragedy humanity is facing. Hope is the virtue of a heart that doesn't lock itself into darkness, that doesn't dwell on the past, does not simply get by in the present, but is able to see a tomorrow." ~ Pope Francis
God's blessings always,
Mrs. Cecile Mantecon, Principal

Middle School Math Club Off to a Great Start
Earlier this year, parents and middle school students launched a math club with the purpose of helping students have fun while learning math; of developing a sense of responsibility while practicing leadership and team work skills; and by building friendships. The Club meets on Fridays after school where students challenge one another to deepen knowledge, fundraise to support the work of the group and to organize service opportunities as well as prepare for future competitions. The Club is moderated by Mrs. Procaccio and supported by dedicated parents. Way to go, Math Club!

YARD DUTY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!
Dear Community,
We are sending out this extremely important appeal to you as we have seen a dramatic decline in volunteers for yard duty. Although this is a high service hour opportunity, it is also a position that requires a full year commitment. Your participation in keeping our students safe and secure during the lunch hour is extremely important! Without your service we will be forced to look to hire from the outside.
Please consider volunteering for yard duty and committing to one hour per week for the remainder of the school year. Volunteering your time keeps tuition down as an alternative to paid supervision.
Thank you! The St. Clare School Faculty and Staff appreciate your continued support and commitment.
