- Grading & Standards Based Learning -
Standards-based learning (SBL) (process for the student) refers to the method of how a student receives information within a class, tasks completed for grading, continuous opportunity to show improvement in understanding to master the priority standard. Priority standards are pre-determined by the teacher, district, and/or state as to what concepts and skills are essential for the student to learn in the class. Students will find SBL more relevant because they can identify the skill or information that is required and the teacher will be able to link the standard to the lesson. Students will have more buy-in, understanding and ownership of their learning in a SBL environment because the curriculum becomes more individualized based on the abilities of each student.
