A message from Mr. Lucita
It’s CONTEST WEEK!! Before we get to what that means I want to say thank you to our band students for cleaning your areas this week! The instrument room and dressing rooms were much better this week!! Great job, now let’s keep it going!
I would also like to thank everyone for their flexibility this past week with the ever-changing schedule. We are happy that we were able to make the bus shortage work in such a way that every group was able to arrive at the stadium safely and on time! Thank you to Coach Robinson and Coach Garza, and also Mr. and Mrs. Reyes for stepping in and driving for us on such short notice. For those wondering, on Wednesday, five of the seven charter buses scheduled to transport the band, dance team, cheerleaders and football team were rerouted to assist with coastal hurricane relief. We completely understand and support those charter companies contributing to the safety and well-being of those caught on the coast. It was all hands on deck to find new buses and drivers, and our village stepped up and got everyone to the game safely and on time!
This week is a huge week for the Jaguar Band! This is the week that we attend our first marching contest!! We will be traveling to Boerne Champion Stadium for our contest on Saturday. A detailed Contest Day schedule will be issued along with the Game Day schedule this week. EVERY STUDENT attends on contest days. This question was asked, and we want to make sure everyone is aware that ALL members attend regardless of position, status or role.
I would like to give a big shout-out to our parents from this weekend! Talk about busy!!!! We had the football game in San Antonio on Friday night, and then the very next morning we had our Jag Jog 5k and Thunder in the Hills Drumline Contest. The parents were out in force, feeding our kids before the game; setting up for the Jog early Saturday morning; and then volunteering out on the race course. While the race was running there were also parents volunteering to build and assemble props for the show, working on the band trailer and working on the uniforms & hats! Once the 5K race was over, our parents headed to Dripping Springs to support our Jaguar Drumline at their first contest. It was extremely humbling to see the support our students are blessed to receive! Thank you so much to our parents!
Now for this week! Our season is starting to ramp up in speed and frequency!! We have a home football game against Lehman High School on Friday night at Shelton Stadium and our first marching contest on Saturday! It’s GO TIME!! Contest season is upon us! Parents make sure you have your Jag Swag, your “Send Off” signs and your loudest cheers as we begin this super exciting stretch of our season!
We have an eligibility impacting progress report coming up in two weeks! Every student must be passing! We have set up a peer tutoring system within the band program as well as the campus tutoring system. Any band student failing a class is required to attend tutoring! Our ACADEMIC success is the main focus - we need EVERY student passing EVERY class. If a student is missing an assignment or test we encourage them to schedule the time to make up that item in the mornings before school, during lunch, during homeroom or after school on Wednesdays. You may also complete that item during the tutoring times from 4:10 - 4:40 p.m. Do not schedule the make-up time in a way that will cause you to be late or miss rehearsal. Time management and planning ahead are the key!
I want to also put it on everyone’s radar that we will be starting our fall fundraiser in two weeks. We have been successful using a crowd-sourcing fundraiser platform in the past and will continue to hold one each semester. We need all students participating to help us raise the funds to cover the various cost of items such as master classes, clinics, consultants, marching season related costs, and countless financial items that our yearly budget can not cover. We will kick off our fundraiser the first week of October. The best thing is that there are no door-to-door sales, no deliveries, and no inventory to manage. It is 100% digital and has a 90% profit margin! It is the easiest way for families and friends to show their financial support to our band and students! Let’s make it an awesome fundraiser!”
Again, the speed and frequency of items, events and performances are starting to ramp up!! Everyone hang on, it’s going to be a super exciting ride! Now students--go practice!
As always! It’s a Great Day to be a Jaguar!

Westlake Marching Festival
COLOR GUARD CORNER!
Friday: white (practice); black (pep rally)
Game Day: Friday
Pep Rally Day: We hope to have our NEW summer uniform outfit ready for wear this week! (fingers crossed!) Make sure to bring the following items for pep rally/game day:
- Black capris and Black shirt (IF we do not get all uniforms in!)
- Black sneakers
Game performance uniform: We should have our show-themed costumes this week! Make sure to bring the following items:
- Bodywrapper (to be issued this week)
- black jazz shoes (wear black thin no show socks)
- Hair products for "Show Hair" (Hair must be up)
- Makeup (Show makeup - details to come out soon!)
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT UNIFORMS!
Uniform replacement policy: As we approach the time when the band and guard will be wearing formal uniforms, we wanted to make sure you were aware of the uniform replacement policy.
Please know that if your student forgets one of the items listed below, they will need to purchase a replacement as we cannot "lend" these out because we cannot resell used items. Furthermore, there are approximately 200 members in the marching band, and handing these items out without recouping cost is way too costly and unsustainable.
We accept cash or credit card. If students are unable to pay on that day, your account will be billed. Please know that any debt left outstanding will result in a hold with the school that could prevent your student from such things as purchasing prom tickets to qualifying for exemptions from finals.
Lastly, for Band and Guard students, please put your student's name on ALL UNIFORM PARTS. We recommend using paint pens/sharpies. If they are labeled, we can get those items back to your student - if they are not labeled, we cannot get those items back to them and it may result in you paying unnecessarily for replacements.
Prices of replacement items:
khaki shorts $20
water jug $8
black socks $2
black gloves $3 (gloves will be passed out this week)
With that said, if you have old summer uniform items that your student no longer uses and that are in good shape, please send those to the band hall. The uniform crew will be creating a "Uniform Closet" from which will first be utilized to assist any families in need and, if sizes are available, students can check out to borrow. Please know that if the item is not returned within 5 school days, your account will be charged the appropriate amount and outstanding debts will result in holds for your student as was explained above.
