Greetings from Dr. G

August 24, 2019

Our first week of school is in the books, and we are looking forward to a great school year. One important way you can support your scholars at home is by talking to them about the IB principles. The IB principles are embedded in the work our school does daily. One principle that is particularly relevant now is being a risk-taker. Some of our scholars began school for the first time, some started a new journey at CIA after leaving elementary school behind, and others asked questions or tried something new this week. Be sure to celebrate your scholars as they step out of their comfort zone and take risks at school and at home.

Arrival and dismissal is a busy time. If you pick up your scholar, please adhere to the guidelines shared in the welcome letter. We know that the car pick up line is long, but we need parents to park in the line rather than parking across the street or in the lot. Safety is the number one priority and the procedures we have in place are meant to keep everyone safe.

Clay International Academy has a dress code. Please make sure your scholars are not wearing jeans to school and are wearing the appropriate shirt and pant color. CIA spirit wear is appropriate every day.

Tops:

Tops should be plain (no logos, stripes, patterns or prints)

Tops should be red, yellow (any shade), white, light blue, navy blue, or black

Tops should have a collar

Tops should not have a hood

Bottoms:

Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be longer than finger-tip at arm’s length

Shorts are only permissible 1st and 4th quarter

Colors - tan/khaki, navy or black

No denim

Bottoms should not be form fitting

Shoes must be appropriate for school. Please, no open toed sandals, slides, or flip flops

Our first PTSC meeting is this Tuesday at 5:30. We will meet in the library.

Our 6th grade scholars received their Chromebooks this week. Please encourage them to charge them at home and to bring them daily. Many of our textbooks are now online and students will need their Chromebooks to access materials.

Have a great weekend and we will see you Monday!

Blessings,

Dr. Garcia
