HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015
AVID Students Get In The Spirit!
In addition, 9-12 grade AVID students participate in the Texas Scholars program. ECISD has a list of approved non-profit organizations from which the students can choose to volunteer for. They submit their Community Service Certification Form to their counselors and have documentation ready for when they apply for colleges. Texas Scholars is available for all ECISD students in grades 9-12.

Recruitment Under Way
The one on one 10-15 minute interview is by far the most rewarding and revealing step in the process. Students get an opportunity to discuss their dreams about getting into college and creating a successful future. They share their personal and academic obstacles and their plans to overcome them.
In addition, this interview is the first of its kind for most of the 6th graders. They have an opportunity to practice interview skills they will use many times. Most took it very seriously and came prepared with a firm handshake and confidence!! Some took it further and dressed up for the occasion!
Are You Up To The Challenge?!
The First Lady's Reach Higher initiative has launched its FAFSA Completion Challenge urging every senior to complete their FAFSA. Every AVID Senior is already required to complete the FAFSA, is your high school ready to take the challenge?
To participate, each school must create a 3-5 minute video that highlights the creative things you are doing to encourage FAFSA completion. Submit your entry here and share it on social media using #ReachHigher.

Collaboration - Team Huddle
Team Huddle is a collaborative learning strategy that is used to engage students and maximize learning. Students move (or dance) around the room to lively music. The teacher calls out 'Huddle" and a number. For example, "Huddle four". Students then create a group of four and share on a teacher selected topic.
This activity is great for team-building, but can be maximized as a learning strategy for content review, text reflection, or brainstorming.
