MCV4 Immunization Reminder for Incoming Seniors Class of 2021
If you have already sent your child's vaccination records, thank you! If not, please read the letter below from Mrs. Johnson regarding the state required meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine for students who will be seniors beginning in the 2020-21 school year. Proof of vaccination may be submitted to the LHS clinic or main office during the remainder of this school year or over the summer.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are sending this letter to inform our 2020-21 senior parents about the immunization requirement for a meningococcal (MCV4). The state of Ohio began requiring the meningococcal (MVC4) vaccine starting with the 2016-17 school year.
Meningococcal disease is a serious bacterial illness. It is the leading cause of bacterial meningitis in children age 2 through 18 years old in the United States. Meningitis is an infection of the covering of the brain and the spinal cord. Two doses of the meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) are recommended for adolescents 11 through 18 years of age. The first dose at 11 or 12 years old and a booster dose at age 16. For more information on these vaccines, go to http://www.odh.ohio.gov/odhprograms/bid/immunization/immindex1.aspx
If the first dose (or series) is given between ages 11-15, the booster should be given between 16 and 18.
If the first dose (or series) is given after the 16th birthday, a booster is not needed.
The Revised Law of the State of Ohio (3313.671) states that all students entering the 12th grade are required to have meningococcal vaccine (MCV4)). Ohio Law allows a 14 day period for compliance after registration/first day of school. If a student does not obtain the required vaccinations and provide written documentation to the school, the school will exclude that student on the 15th day until it is completed.
If needed, Hamilton, Warren, and Clermont County Health Departments have many clinics at various locations that offer all vaccinations at a low cost. If you have questions or difficulty completing this requirement, you may contact us at 677-7973 day or evening and leave a message. We encourage you to send any documentation that you get regarding these vaccines anytime throughout this school year and over the summer. We will accept any documentation as long as it states the student’s name, name of the vaccine(s) given, and physician’s signature and/ or medical provider’s information. A copy from your child’s electronic medical record is acceptable.
Sincerely,
Peggy Johnson
