Turkeys in Disquise
The turkeys in disquise are due Monday. Please have your child cut it out and put their name on the back. I will be putting them up all week so if you were unable to finish the turkey by Monday, please plan on getting it done as soon as possible and turn it in. If you need construction paper, please write a note as to the colors you need for Monday. I will send it in your child's folder.
Kindergarten Thanksgiving Program
Please join us Tuesday, November 20th for a little kindergarten song and dance. The program will begin at 9:45 in the cafeteria. Please plan to arrive early to get a seat. Everyone is welcome! The program will last approximately 20 minutes. If you are planning on taking your child after the program, please meet us back at the classroom to sign your child out. I understand that holiday travels might require a little extra time. I plan to use the day to conference with children that are here on their writing. The children will enjoy social stations.
Tuesday is Turkey Day!
The cafeteria menu for Tuesday has been changed to roasted turkey or steak fingers, mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, roasted vegetables, cranberry sauce, roll, choice of fruit, and milk.
Conscious Discipline
We have been working with conflict resolution in our classroom. Using the conscious discipline model, we are working on empowering children to share their concerns with others. At this age, children don't always know that what they are saying or doing is innapropriate or bothersome to others. Children are learning to say "I don't like it when you.... please ....." For example, I don't like it when you touch my hair in line, please keep your hands to yourself.
We talk about how reminders for friends are helpful for them. But when those reminders are not accepted, then an adults help is needed. I have also tried to stress that when someone is being harmful to themselves or others, then they should come directly to myself or another adult.
Fun Friday
Friday was not as fun as it generally is because I had to wrap up assessments for report cards. The students did, however, make construction paper scarecrows and then had almost an hour to explore the ipads with a partner. They could choose between logic puzzles, dot to dots, or phonics activities. They were responsible and safe with the equipment. At recess we checked out our rotting pumpkins and the bugs eating them and then ended the day with the sing along.
Conference Request
Please feel free to contact me to schedule a conference if you are interested. The October conferences are the only scheduled conference we will have. We can, however, meet at anytime you or I feel the need.
Report cards will go home on Friday. Please sign the report card and return it in the envelope provided. Once I receive the signed copy, I will send your copy home. This helps me keep track of who has and has not returned the signed copy. In the envelope I will enclose some items you might want to focus on during your skill practice time. Remember, 2-3x each week for 15 minutes is a great way to support the classroom learning.
Wish List
We are in need of washable markers, colored pencils, envelopes, white pipe cleaners, and white tissue paper for the classroom. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
