Tallmadge Talk
December 2021
Message from Mrs. Walker
As always, this is a busy time of the year filled with family gatherings, shopping, and the excitement of the holiday break. Please help your child finish 2021 strong by making sure they are prepared for class with all work completed and that they study each night to be successful for the next day.
The cold weather is here. Please make sure your children come to school prepared to go outside for recess. With the weather becoming increasingly colder and snow arriving, we may have a chance for a snow day. Make sure you have a connection to get the information for any school delays or cancellations.

Reminders...
- Please send in a note if your child will be leaving early for the day. This way we can alert the teacher and your child can be prepared.
- Please do not drop off your children before 8:45 because we do not have any staff on duty until this time.
- Please remember that children should not be bringing any toys etc. into school. These often create an unnecessary distraction and are the source for arguments and tears.
- With the winnter weather comes the flu and cold season. Please make sure that we practice careful handwashing. If your child is sick, please have them stay home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. At this time, we do still have the Covid virus among us and we will continue to follow the Fairfield County Health Dept guidelines.
May December sparkle for you!

Tech Tips from Mr. Allison
We have been noticing lately that many students have multiple students signed in on their Chromebooks, typically siblings. Whether they are older or younger, it is important to remember that no other student - or anyone else - should be signing on to any student’s Chromebook other than their own. This is a matter of security and accountability for the student to whom the Chromebook is assigned, as well as simple responsibility. One of the reasons the district has assigned specific Chromebooks to students, and allowed them to continue taking the devices home with them beyond the Covid-mandated quarantine, is to teach the students a sense of responsibility for these devices, which are assigned to them, but do not belong to them. Think of Chromebooks like very expensive library books; they are checked out to each student individually, and it is expected that each student care for their assigned Chromebook, and bring it and their charger with them back and forth from school on a daily basis, or whenever their teachers allow students to take them home (some of the younger grades do not require students to take their devices home daily). It doesn’t matter if it’s a younger sibling signing in on an older sibling’s device, or an older sibling signing in on a younger sibling’s device, or a neighbor, or a cousin, etc. The fact is that each student is assigned their own device specifically so that they all have the same opportunities to responsibly use and enjoy their devices for school-related activities. Parents themselves should only be helping students sign onto their devices at most; remember anything accessed on a Lancaster City Schools Chromebook can be viewed by Lancaster City Schools, and any content deemed inappropriate or outside of the boundaries of the student Internet User Agreement Form could reflect poorly on the student. We don’t want that to happen, so please make sure your students are only using their own devices, and preferably using them for school-related purposes.
Curriculum News
This month in the classroom you will hear your child talking about exciting discoveries and learning opportunities. To support learning with our E.L. curriculum we have partnered with Alley Park to provide various grade levels with demonstrations. These demonstrations include:
- Ohio fossils to go along with our paleontology unit
- Awesome Amphibians to go along with our frogs unit
- Queen of Defense to go along with our animal defense unit students will get to meet (Poppy the skunk)
The LEXIA Cup December Challenge
During the month of December, students will be doing a grade level challenge for LEXIA units. We want to encourage students to use their time on LEXIA wisely and to ensure they are making progress. To support that we will have a monthly challenge. Each grade level will compete for prizes and the classroom with the most units in each pod will receive the LEXIA trophy for the month. We look forward to seeing students make literacy gains by working hard on their LEXIA units.
