A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Spring News

Spring is on the way, and with it, so many fun things at school! Here are just a few of the highlights:

OBOB

I want to congratulate all of the students who participated in OBOB. They did a phenomenal job! Here are the teams:

Blue Fire: Graham, Uly, Charles, Nathaniel, Callan

Willagillespie Warriors: Charlotte, Evalynn, Ophelia, Paris

The Readers: Amiyah, Maelin, Max, Rose

Swirling Snowflakes: Acacia, Anaya, Georgia, Jazzerelle

Sweet and Sassy: Aubrey, Brittany, Finn, King

Sharp Waffles: Drake, Kiran, Noah, Tobin

Book Seekers: Justice, Maxton, Shiloh, Zaniyah

And of course, congratulations to the OBOB winners! The Blue Fire Team will participate in the regional championships on Saturday, March 11th at SEHS High School. We know you will represent the Willagillespie Eagles well!

PBIS

Our school PBIS team has done it again! They have come up with an exciting, and we might even say 'delicious', way for all of our students to practice safety at school! Between February 21st and March 16th students will have the chance to earn WOW's for showing safe behavior. They can then use those WOW's to vote for their favorite candidate to become a human ice cream sundae (complete with whip cream and sprinkles!) The candidates are WillaG staff members, and the kids have been very excited to fill the voting buckets! On March 20th, the 'winners' will be announced during the morning announcements, then on March 22nd we will have Sundae Funday! (Be sure to ask your kids about it when they come home, they should have some good stories to tell!)

CLASSIFIED APPRECIATION WEEK

The week of March 6-10th is our chance to show a little love for our hardworking Classified employees. Classroom EA's, Behavior Support EA's, custodians, Nutrition staff and Office staff all work hard during the year to make sure our school can run smoothly, and they do a wonderful job! If you see a Classified employee, make sure to say thanks!

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION

If you have an incoming Kinder (or have family, friends or neighbors who have incoming Kinders) please be sure to mark your calendars and attend our Kinder Orientation Night on March 16th from 5-6 PM. Parents will have a chance to meet with the Principal, Office Manager, School Nurse and the Kinder Team to ask questions and pick up enrollment paperwork. Kinders will get to have a 'sample' kinder day in the classroom with some of our Kinder Team. There will be crafts, story time and even the opportunity to ride the school bus (A super quick trip around the parking lot!). This is a great opportunity to see the school and get your important questions answered, we hope to see you there!

NEW E-NEWSLETTER FORMAT

Our e-newsletter has been undergoing some changes this year. We scrapped our old e-newsletter platform when we learned that our communications were going directly to the junk mailbox for many of our parents. This is the first edition of our new platform, Smore. Many other schools in our district use Smore for their parent communications, so we're excited to join the team and give it a try! If you hear of anyone who is not receiving the e-newsletter, please be sure to have them contact our office at 541-790-7100 so we can add them to our mailing list.

As always, Grow Eagles!

Navigating Social Media

As we all know, there is a constant barrage of pressure for kids to be 'connected' today. With that pressure comes the responsibility for knowing what your kids are doing on social media. Who are the connecting with? What are they seeing? What are they doing? Common Sense Media has some great information about how to navigate social media with your kids.
