Tip of the Week- Make Paper Handouts Digital
Alice Keeler (you know she's my favorite) posted this week on Twitter a great tip about turning paper handouts into digital copies using Google Keep. Easy peasy using the Google Keep app. Check out her advice here.
Follow Friday- #FISDchat
There are a couple of FISD Technology folks you need to follow on twitter. If you don't follow me yet, I am @hamptech, and then we have one large tech Twitter for the district with is @FriscoISDTech And then OF COURSE I would love for you to join our first Twitter chat on Nov 16th which will be about formative assessment methods. Check out the invitation below. If you are new to Twitter, check out bit.ly/FISDchat for everything you need to know to join in.
Tool of the Week- Google Forms for Scavenger Hunts
I know. Google Forms AGAIN! But seriously- now you can add images to answer choices!!! AND you can now do the file upload thingie on responses! It is here!
I'm thinking scavenger hunts. Send the kids out with their devices and have them hunt for things, solve problems, whatever. And then have them take a picture and turn it in! Math teachers, they can take pictures of their work! Foreign language teachers, have them upload recordings! When you create the upload question in forms, you get to choose the kind of files you will allow to be uploaded. If you give this a try be sure to let me know! I want to see how you are using it!
Grant for Great Ideas- Google Expeditions
I got my grant funded! This week I got $7000 to purchase a Google Expeditions kit with 20 devices. If you are wondering what Google Expeditions is, below is a short video that kind of explains it. It is a way to bring virtual reality into the classroom, but more than that, it is a way to guide students through a virtual field trip experience. You can find a list of current available expeditions at bit.ly/gooexp CTE people, this means you as well! I got this as a district grant which means all our secondary folks will be able to use it! And there are several career expeditions that focus on putting students in the middle of a job site. But since this will be available to a LOT of people, this also means we will have to plan ahead so you can guarantee you get the equipment. Take a look and be sure to let me know if anything sticks out! I do have two Google Cardboard devices in my office that you are welcome to play with :)
