Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP)
Des Moines Public School students in grades 3-11 will take the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) in April. This assessment is required by the Iowa Department of Education for federal accountability purposes. Below are the plans to administer the assessment at Hanawalt. ***No smart watches can be worn during testing.***
Please read carefully to ensure you know the plan for your student. We need students to be on time for testing.
3rd Grade and 4th Grade:
- Thursday, April 6th: Reading
- Friday, April 7th: Language and Writing
- Monday, April 10th: Math
5th Grade:
- Tuesday, April 11th: Reading
- Wednesday, April 12th: Language and Writing
- Thursdya, April 13th: Math
- Friday, April 14th: Science
Results: We anticipate sending test results out to all DMPS families via Infinite Campus mid-summer.

Kindergarten Registration 2023 - 2024
Below is a list of students who can complete sign-up at Hanawalt. Anyone who does not fall into one of the categories listed below should be sent to the Welcome Center.
1.Younger siblings of students who currently attend Hanawalt and reside in our attendance area.
2.Younger siblings of students who currently attend Hanawalt who do not live in our attendance area but have a 23/24 WIDT or OE approval letter.
To sign-up at Hanawalt, please provide the student's Birth Certificate, Immunizations, Parent ID and Proof of Residency.
After July 11, 2023, regardless of the situation, ALL new students including incoming siblings, will need to go to the Welcome Center.

Teacher Treats + Tokens of Thanks!
Hanawalt's Teacher Appreciation committee is asking individuals or small groups to collaborate to surprise our teachers+staff with a treat or token of thanks on a Monday of their convenience. You can pick your treat, token and any Monday through the end of the school year. This will be in addition to the Teacher Appreciation committee monthly meal or other activity.
Volunteers can bring whatever they wish: a cheese or veggie tray, a snack mix, fresh fruit, muffins, dessert, flavored waters or iced tea, kind notes, candy, flowers, whatever! On average, there are 50 adults at Hanawalt each day working with the students. Ideal drop-off is by 10:30am on the Monday you choose. Parents Night Out 2023
We're three weeks away! Reserve your tickets for Hanawalt's biggest fundraiser of the year, Parent's Night Out 2023, The Hanawalt Blu'au! The Hanawalt Blu'au is hosted by West End Architectural Salvage on April 20 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Expect a night of fun, auction bidding, and building community. Parents, supporters, staff, and grandparents are all welcome to attend.
