Brightwood Tiger Weekly News
2001 Brightwood School Rd Greensboro, NC 27405
Week of September 19 - September 23
Good Evening Brightwood Tiger. This is Principal Stokes. Welcome to another Game Changing week! Please remember we welcome our Tigers into the building beginning at 7:05 am and the tardy bell rings at 7:25 am
This week we began Start with Hello Week because, in every school and in every community, there are young people who suffer silently because they feel left out, alone or invisible. This week is also Banned Books Week which is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read.
Please plan to join us on Thursday September 22, at 6:00 pm for our Annual Title one Night. At this meeting we will discuss our status as a Title One school, discuss PTA, other ways that parents can volunteer to support the school. You will also have an opportunity this evening to visit the classes briefly.
Students will begin taking their NWEA assessments next week beginning the week of September 26 in all grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. They will need their devices completely charged and working correctly.
Student interim reports will be coming next week September 28, please make sure that you are having open communication with your child’s teacher about your child’s academic progress thus far in the academic school year. We have now been in school for 4 weeks and we have been able to capture some academic data points to give you an idea of the progress your child is making so far this school year.
Parents many students were issued their devices please help us with reminding the students that their devices are to be used for academic purposes only. We are finding that many students are taking pictures, recoding videos and playing games on their devices. Please take the time to check your child’s device to ensure that they are properly using his/her device. We are not able to replace chargers at this time so if your child did not return a charger last year or have lost their charger this school year, we will not be able to replace it. It will need to be replaced by the parent or guardian.
One cards all students in grades first through fifth that were issued a One Card must bring their One Card to school daily. If the student does not have their issued One Card it will need to be replaced. A new One Card cost five dollars each time it is lost.
Parents remember our safety protocols include that parents are not allowed to enter the building during our morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. When only students enter the building during these times, we can keep laser focus eyes on the children and are also more equipped to recognize any potential suspicious activity. We welcome you to contact the school and/or your child’s teacher to schedule 15-minute classroom visits and meetings. Parents are not allowed to eat lunch with students as of right now we are just now transitioning back to eating in the cafeteria. We are teaching our children the cafeteria expectations.
School dismissal will begin at 2:13, instruction ends at 2:10 pm. Please make sure you have photo ID with you each day if you need to pick your child up early for appointment and emergencies which is before 1:45 pm. Please make sure you sign up for ClassDojo to receive your child’s class and our school information and updates. For your child to be a walker they must live in our verified walk zone which is within a mile radius from the school.
Our drop off and afternoon pick up procedures were shared at open house and were also placed on the School ClassDojo Story and is outlined in our Student Handbook. Please make sure you review all procedures.
We thank you so much for all that you do! Remember it is always a Great Day to Be a Brightwood Tiger! Have a wonderful evening remember to be amazing, because you are Amazing.
Love Always Your Proud Principal
Ms. LaTrice Stokes
