Tiger's Tale
January 22, 2021
Message From The Principal
Dear 6th Grade Families,
I want to relay information about our 6th grade orientation. Group A is scheduled for Monday, January 25th. Group B is scheduled for Tuesday, January 26th. Orientation hours are from 8:15-11:50. All students will still go "live" in the afternoon following the Hybrid schedule. Our students will tour the building and visit each class on their schedule. Teachers will introduce themselves and discuss their class process and system(s). Our goal is to make the day fun and less about rules and expectations. The new COVID expectations will be covered by administration during the first week of school. Students haven't been in school for a long time and will be excited to see their friends and meet their teachers. We want their first in-person Thompson experience to be a positive one that brings joy and excitement!
Busing will be provided.
Face masks must be worn at all times.

Self-Certification Acknowledgement Required for Hybrid Learning
IMPORTANT REMINDER
Parents of Hybrid Learning Students - The e-form for the Self-Certification Acknowledgement is no longer available on the Tyler Portal. However, completion of this form is required before entering the building for hybrid learning.
Below is a link to the form. Please fill it out and return to the Thompson office as soon as possible or email your completed form to Jodi Hart - jhart@sd308.org
AVID
One of the elements of inquiry is being able to ask the right questions to get to the information that you need. A fun way to do this is to start with a think-aloud. AVID states, "The purpose of this reading strategy is to model critical thinking for students by pausing and connecting, which is what good readers do while reading difficult and complex texts. The teacher verbalizes their thoughts while reading a text aloud, frequently pausing and connecting information and thoughts by “thinking aloud” (e.g., questioning the author, recognizing bias, defining vocabulary, clarifying a difficult passage or segment, making predictions, and making
inferences), as well." Let your mind wander and dig deeper into the information to really get a good picture of what you want to learn.

Oswego Public Library Cards
Getting access to these resources is EASY! Just fill out the attached Google Form. After you complete it, Ms. Buan will contact you with access instructions and the library card number. IT’S THAT EASY! :) The library card number will be active as soon as you receive it, and will expire on June 1, 2021. Please be sure to complete the form for every child in your household who attends Thompson, so that we may give each child her/his own library card number. Information on obtaining cards for elementary and high school students will come from the elementary and high school librarians. In addition to immediate access to the digital library, students will also have the option to visit either campus of the library to get “physical” access to books, movies, video games, etc. Information on how to access these resources will be sent to you along with the library card number.
