This school year brings a renewed focus to several district priorities. This is the second year of implementation of our Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) program which supports our English/Language Arts curriculum. This rigorous ELA program provides students with the foundational skills needed to become fluent readers, communicators, and learners. Secondly, as the elementary schools focused on the Portrait of an Eagle competency of Responsibility last school year, we will add the competencies of Confidence, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Problem Solving to the repertoire. The final two competencies, Empathy and Adaptability, will be added during the 2024-25 school year. Teachers and administrators across the district have been working on lessons to bring our CV Portrait of an Eagle to life in each CV building for all CV students. Lastly, we are beginning the pilot phase of a new Mathematics program for future adoption. Select teachers across all eight elementary schools will pilot one of two new mathematics programs. Shaull 5th grade teachers Mrs. Hussey and Mrs. Greenholt will be piloting Eureka Math this school year. We are excited to learn more about Eureka Math (piloted here at Shaull), and Bridges Math (piloted at other CV buildings) this school year!

With the CV Portrait of an Eagle as a backdrop to our school, we have adopted a new building theme of "Fly Like an Eagle". While we are all proud to be a Shaull Shark, we also have great pride in being a Cumberland Valley Eagle! This year we will celebrate students who are demonstrating the Portrait of an Eagle (POE) competencies with monthly awards, award tickets during the school day, POE t-shirts, and assemblies throughout the school year focused on the competencies and awards. We are very excited to celebrate our students for all the positive contributions they make within our school community!

We are pleased to report that we have a new main number for our school. The new phone number for the Shaull Elementary School office is 717-506-3415.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is a question or concern! We will see you all very soon!

Respectfully,

Mr. Richard Tysarczyk

A Word About School Supplies

Here at Cumberland Valley, families do not need to purchase school supplies such as pencil cases, pencils, crayons, etc. Our schools provide this for each student. However, families are encouraged to send their student with a backpack, lunch box, water bottle, and headphones for their district i-pad or Chromebook.
