January Newsletter
January Events and Lessons
I hope each of you had a fabulous Christmas holiday and a Happy New Year with your families. This month in the library I am continuing with Bluebonnet books in grades 3-6, as well as research with the 6th graders, . In grades PK - 2 we will be working on Nonfiction Text Features, Fiction story retelling, a biography of Martin Luther King, and some winter activities.
Important Dates to Remember:
January 15 - Behavior Luncheon in the Library
Coming soon - Internet Safety with Grades 2,4,6
Six Flags Read To Succed Program
Don't forget the deadline is February 18th to turn in ALL reading logs. This is only 6 hours of reading, so all students are capable of completing this program. Even if they have a season pass, they can always use the ticket for a friend.
District Title 1 Funds
All Title 1 Libraries received a generous amount of money that was used for purchasing new books to support the curriculum, collaborative reading area furniture, and Makerspace tables, chairs, and materials. My order for books and furniture is complete, and the Makerspace order will be complete by the middle of January. I can't wait for all the new items to arrive in the library. I purchased a little over 1,200 new books.
Bluebonnet Voting
Bluebonnet Voting will take place in the library the last week in January. Students need to have completed 5 Bluebonnet books by their library time the last week. I have done many books as lessons in the library to help them, but please encourage them to continue towards their goal. I also welcome you to check out some to keep in your classroom for the students to read between now and then.
