Dryden Dolphin Splash Newsletter
October 4, 2021
Dear Dryden Families,
It's hard to believe that it's already October and students have been in school for 29 days so far this year! So much has happened within the first few weeks of school. We've adjusted to new routines, made new friends, and enjoyed many special activities. We look forward to many more to come! This is the time of year when students begin to go deeper into learning. Sometimes we refer to this as engaging in "productive struggle" or going into the "learning pit". As students experience success and growth from appropriately challenging experiences, they become better problem-solvers, more persistent, more confident and more resilient.
While homework can be a helpful habit and positive way to reinforce classroom learning, it's most important that elementary students are able to have time at home to relax and play, get 10-12 hours of sleep each night, and eat a healthy breakfast so they are ready to do their best learning at school each day. Please feel free to contact your child's classroom teacher or me if we can help address any questions or concerns you may have about homework.
Lastly, a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU to the Dryden PTA for their efforts and success in surpassing their fundraising goal this year. Many thanks to all of the families and community members who contributed. We are celebrating at Dryden with a dance party for our students at recess with a special visit by Echo the Dolphin on Monday, October 4. The dance party will be rescheduled if weather is inclement.
Wishing you all a GREAT Dolphin week!
Sincerely,
Akemi Sessler, Principal

Walk to School Day, October 6
We’d like to invite all Dryden students to join a route and walk with our staff to celebrate International Walk to School Day at 8:40 am on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2021.
The aim of this day is to encourage physical activity, healthier habits, environmental concerns, and safe routes to school. We hope many Dryden families will join us on this day as well as consider this a preferred option for getting to and from school, weather permitting, throughout the school year.
Please see the map below for meeting locations and routes. Dryden staff will be wearing spirit wear and ID badges so you can spot them. We look forward to walking to school with you!
