(Registration Closed) Engineering Sampler: Rising 7th and 8th Grades
Have you ever heard someone say “You must be an engineer to figure that out”, but you couldn’t actually figure out what engineers did? Come find out with our engineering sampler. Throughout the week, we will sample three different types of engineering, as well as learn about the engineering process. We will create a prosthetic leg like a bio-engineer, a solar oven that you can bake cookies in like an Environmental Engineer, and build a bridge like a Civil Engineer. Join us to find out what type of engineering fits you best!
(Registration Closed) Fighting the Zika Virus: Rising 7th and 8th Grades
Scientists are currently debating several methods to fight the spread of the Zika virus. We will be exploring the feasibility, cost, and time frame for the two most popular ideas; genetically modified organisms and vaccines.
Exploring America's Natural Wonders: Rising 6th - 8th Grades
Students will learn about the existing national parks through extensive research. They will locate the existing national parks and mark them on a United States map. After learning about the establishment of national parks, students will choose a location where they feel like a national park would be beneficial. They will “create” the park throughout the week.
Putting Poe On Trial: Rising 6th - 8th Grades
The MARC of History: Rising 9th and 10th Grades
Most people believe nothing happens in their own backyard. To debunk that adage, this session will look at local history through the lens of the Museum and Archives of Rockingham County (MARC). Participants will also gain an understanding of how local history brings a deeper understanding and connection to the state, national, and global history.
World Explorers and Virtual Field Trips: Rising 9th and 10th Grades
Why should we explore the world? Virtual Field Trips (VFT) are a great way to research a location. By using multiple resources and skills, you will be able to learn about new places, events, and cultures. Using this knowledge, you will design a virtual field trip in order to teach others about a historical event or a characters’ travels from a book in order to share it on Google Lit Trips.
