3rd Grade
Newsletter for April 12, 2018
From the teacher's pen
Happy Easter! He is risen! This final trimester will go by very quickly. If you do not have everything written on your schedule, you may want to map it all out. I will try to capture as much as possibly in the upcoming events section each week. Please read about the Maypole Dance - I need your immediate input about the date.
Maypole Dance Potential Change - please respond tomorrow April 13th.
The tradition at St. Michael has always been for the 3rd graders to dance around the maypole to celebrate Mary after the May Crowning Mass. Because the church is closed, Mass, as well as all our celebrations must happen in the gym. This includes the 8th graders processing in to crown Mary, the procession of 2nd graders who have made their First Holy Communion, and the attendance of all their families - making for a challenging use of the available space. Due to the logistics involved with holding this event in the gym right after Mass, we are taking a look at moving just the 3rd grade dance to Thursday, May 3rd at about 2:30 instead. The 3rd graders would still enjoy the participation of the entire student body and a reception afterward with their families. Please let me know TOMORROW if you or any extended family members are NOT able to attend on Thursday. If even one person can not attend, then we will continue to plan for the 3rd graders to join in the Friday celebration as in the past.
Maypole Attire
The students come to school in their fancy clothes and may wear their fancy clothes all day if they (and you) choose. They may also change after the dance.
- Girls - spring dresses, flat shoes (tennis shoes are great). The dresses must be loose enough for the girls to skip around in.
- Boys - button-down dress shirt, slacks, flat shoes (tennis shoes are great).
The Final Stretch - and some reminders
Please help your child with the following:
- Practice times tables each evening - all students must pass the 1 - 12 times tables to meet the standards.
- Complete IXL homework - the practiced skills will show up on language arts and math tests.
- Write all homework in cursive.
- Rewrite missed spelling words from the Wednesday pretest, 5 times CORRECTLY.
- Empty old papers from their homework folder and their backpack.
Images of Peace Art Show
Sister Monika from St. Placid's Priory invited our students to create artwork for display during their art show. She visited with the students and asked them to think of where they are most at peace, what color helps them be more peaceful, and are they with someone when they are at peace. The images will be framed and hung at the priory but will return to us afterward. Informational postcards are forthcoming
