Referendum Fact of the Week!
Each week from now until April 2, we’ll take this opportunity to educate our families on the upcoming Operating Referendum.Did you know the District is on a relatively fixed income? The state funding formula controls each year the budget for the school district. The district has controlled expenses in the face of inflation and rising costs to maintain a balanced budget when the funding for the district has remained flat. The District understands in times of high inflation, everyone’s budgets are tight- both at home and in business. We are committed to doing our part to spend within our means. The district has controlled expenses in the face of inflation and a competitive job market. The District has eliminated 9 certified positions since 2020-21 in response to smaller incoming classes at the lower levels and larger graduating classes resulting in declining enrollment within our schools. We have worked with neighboring districts to share staff and programs to reduce costs. The district is reducing expenditures in the 2024-2025 budget by $250,000. We have or are going out to bid on our largest vendor contracts to ensure we are getting the best service at the best price for our district. We have controlled salaries and benefits so that a balanced budget could be maintained.
Under the funding formula, our allowed levy will drop by nearly $1.5M next year. No business can continue to provide high quality services with a $1.5M drop in revenue. The Williams Bay School District has established a tradition of excellence and we want to protect a first class education that prepares our children to be a part of a first class community.
That is why we are asking the taxpayers to support maintaining level funding by approving a referendum.
